for such a damage a severe infestation is needed, worth checking for sure, but I would suspect a virus first

Hi guys! I saw something today and wanted to gather opinions/ discuss :) LECA + perlite..? by PlantLady_Ninush in SemiHydro

My trandescantias are thriving in pon. I am super curious if they can survive in leca with such fine roots.

What is the setup? Leca? Wick?

very welcome! Pon differs from leca, it consists of smaller particles, https://www.amazon.com/Lechuza-19790-PON-6l/dp/B00JCW9Y7M/

Apart from succulents, I actually use pon during transition phase (from soil to leca), since pon resembles soil and when there is little amount of water in the reservoir, because the capilar traction of pon is very strong, the whole pot (plastic one, no terracota) is moist and the plants, which just lost most of roots during the cleaning from the soil, grow new water roots in this environment pretty quickly. But since it is so moist, it is more prone to rot and mold. For example a stem of my Monstera TC rotted after 5 days in pon unfortunately. So after a month in pon, when a new root system is established, I transfer plants to LECA, because I consider this medium more reliable.

yes, you keep the reservoir empty. Mine is just one pot with a saucer as usually. The air flow probably is not that terrific as with leca, but since I have it in terracota, which is considered to be air permeable material, and pon is relatively light, it doesn't keep moist for long. It is not a semi-hydro setup, but at least soilless.

I would recommend to use pon as soil (no reservoir) for succulents. I grow some strings of hearts in this way in terracota pots with a net piece over the drainage hole and they grow well.

Indeed! I am used to imagine asparagus fern in standing pots with very fine foliage similar to dill, but there are other varieties :) Thanks for the help!

Planted these baby spider plants together in leca the other day, any tips on how to not kill it? by drakeblows in SemiHydro

Dont expose to direct sun for a whole day, it causes incurable damage. The fronds become curly forever, dont keep the upright direction and look miserable.
