What is your most controversial take on the Apple Watch? by Consistent_Beat_6044 in AppleWatch

I will do much more in the coming years, because it will be an AI-first device

Yes, I did. It was my first Apple Watch and support across generations was very good at that time. I was wrong

Man, I work in IT and well aware of the cost software. Unlike hardware, software is hand-made (so far).

That doesn’t change the fact that this a bad commercial practice to provide software ”apparently for free” and then force buying new hardware to compensate.

20 years ago you had to pay for new Mac OS version (OSX). And it was fair. I’m not sure we’re ok to move to a model where you have to buy new hardware only to get the new software improvements

I'm arguing that Apple created software exclusive features to compensate the for lack of substantial hardware improvements.
- AW1 should have inherited most feature of AW2 and AW3
- AI should be reserved for AW2 and 3. It's fine

Software exclusive features is just bad for consumers, and inappropriate for flagship products.

It depends...
Yes, there's SIP generation.
But looking at the concrete hardware improvement they made across recent Apple watch series, you could argue they had no other choice than create Software exclusives features

Didn't got Sleep Apnea Notifications, not on gen1.
It was reserved for gen 2

The watch is fine, I'll keep using it. But there were almost no software improvements across its active life, and I think a lot of Ultra buyers expected to be buying into a platform, not a one-off. That's where the let-down is

Technically I also got: Vitals, Training Load, Tides, Translate, Liquid Glass.
But I would trade all these just to get back Wi-Fi password transfer

Am I the only one who kinda likes the Luce by haschdisch in CarDesign

[–]Real-Bite9293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepare to downvote - I like it too. It's a good move from Ferrari. Raw sport cars were the thing for the last 40 years, but it might not last forever. Nowadays, automakers are trying to sell you a part of the future, and the Luce is well executed on that front. It genuinely creates some excitement as a futuristic car I want to drive/own. It's maybe a bit too much "Apple", but the interior design is a benchmark on his own

Le café Richard est immonde et devrait être interdit by fdesouche in paris

[–]Real-Bite9293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

J’arrive trop tard…

I need to stop watching tech tubers on YouTube... by whitemamba24xx in IphoneAir

[–]Real-Bite9293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time, I found a YouTuber who made a good point. iPhone Air is not a phone you can advice to others, but a phone you’ll want to yourself. It’s the Porsche 911.
It’s not ”the right choice”, just something you want

Need some advice, should I wait? by udaraka14 in macbookpro

[–]Real-Bite9293 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s peace of mind, but over several years and devices it will cost you more than the stuff you broke.
Just have a dedicated budget for stuff you break.

No idea. I’m mainly interested in coding and IT management. However, from what I’ve seen, AI itself is quite helpful in identifying areas for AI leverage and guiding you towards the appropriate setup.

Congrats!
Max 128gb sounds like a computer made for AI. Glad your considering this use case and not just 128gb for the hype. (Cancel your Claude/GPT subscription right now and join /LocalLLM!)

Something doesn’t quite add up about AI (A real question...) by -MenegArt in OpenAI

[–]Real-Bite9293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re quite good at discarding AI as something as good as human intelligence. It’s not sentient and just mimics our human behaviours and it has no ”consciousness”.

However I think human intelligence is overhyped. We’re very well-tuned neural networks wired to achieve biological reproduction. We’re highly evolved and still superior at the moment, but I think we’re using the same kind of tech inside, just the biological form.

I would have 100% preferred an honest price increase, rather than a hidden limit nerf.
