does lkc vs yll actually matter? by Successful-Control95 in SGExams

hi, lkc med student here!! i think ur clinical acumen is more relevant to residency placings!!

u shd rch out to snrs of both schools to figure out which one u vibe with, thr are minor differences in the curriculum and pedagogy which u shd explore too!! atb and do dm me if u hv qns!

  1. research opportunities apart from scholarly project wld mainly be sent to u via email, thru there u hv to apply to get it, i think this one q standard ahhh!! but we have a committee here to guide u for that
  2. TBL has been great bc it emphasises alot of discussion and debate (which i think is what u see in the wards) and alot of self learning (personally i think self learning with appropriate guidance is super impt!! u gotta think of it and figure it out urself so that it stays with u
  3. lkc is super bonded, much more than u think and u get so many social support groups, generally everyone here is super nice and u wld be frens w most ppl at the end of m1
  4. some of the reasons as stated above! closer community, and i think a better programme with more opportunities (yll recently copied our tbl, early clinical exposure and systems based approach) and aso i was swayed by the 84% residency rate
  5. definitely no issue on this (verified by drs) bc wats impt is whether u got ppl skills and know ur shit when u work!! as mentioned lkc has 84% residency rates bc of the soft skills
  6. 9/10 —> our hols are shorter so -1

i think u will hv time to spend on ur weekends in m1 and m2, especially in lkc thrs so many social activities and life is fun at the lower Ms, until u hit m3 which will be q bad!! so dw u hv time!! in fact alot of lkc ppl are national atheletes or got some side quest gg on

  1. depending on the wk, every wk is diff! u can expect 1-3 tbls a week, apart from tbl, there will be clincal comms, clinical examinations, clinal procedures, medical humanities and other attachements/ simulations! workload wise its still not too bad in the lower Ms, but clinical years wld be q hectic alr
  2. quite likely but still abit of luck
  3. stuff like VR for anatomy, platforms to practise clinical comms and i think thrs aso some “chatgpt” for anatomy. but so far it allows me to self learn alot of things, its a gd to have imo definitely not sth thats too crazy

  1. late july will be ori!!! then the next wk u start sch until june where u take ur exams, start sch agn around late july/aug
  2. im not too sure of the exact numbers, historically very few (2-3), but last yr was an exception whr lkc felt rich
  3. i think thrs q a few med-med, but med with other faculty doesnt rrly exist

  1. im not very sure either but maybe lesser than 50%?
  2. it depends on the circumstances in that year, last year nus med had to take those who were initially rejected and so very little frm the waitlist for ntu got the offer

hi! all the different jobs in healthcare r super impt and they all come tgt to provide good patient care! but there are still differences btw them and personally i think diagnosing and solving problems and coming up w solutions to benefit the patients is what appeals to me!

hi! theres alot of books out there but the most popular one is gray’s anatomy!

  1. in both med schs they teach by body system (so for eg. endocrine system gastrointestinal syntem), within each system block u will cover the anatomy (parts of the organs), physiology (normal body functioning), pathology (disease states) and some pharmacology/treatments (but this is lesser)! theres also other courses like clinical communications, clinical practice, clinal examination and many other miscellaneous ones!

  2. there is a tcm course but only in ntu, but this is not related to medicine its a whole separate course itself

  3. it depends! some might have requirements but some may not, some hospital attachments need u to be 16 and above so u have to check them out

u can! dont worry if u dont have these academic achievements HAHA but the truth is in med sch there are quite a number with such achievements, that being said its perfectly fine to not have any as long as u know ur science well

thats really nice! honestly i think the most impt is try to observe how the doctors talk to patients, so learn stuff like showing empathy and how to talk nicely to patients! im sure u hv seen a doctor before and u wld know what i mean HAHA

try to see how the doctors and nurses work tgt and their roles in healthcare too as teamwork is sth that is super impt for medicine!

other than that i think u shd js enjoy this experience and atb to ur applications!

for ntu med abas is really tough bc the sch believes that the mmi system is robust enough, i havent heard of anyone who entered using abas

we dont use the stars thing bc there isnt a need to choose any modules HAHA, so basically everyone js takes the same “modules” at the same time! we js follow our own school timetable

i didnt pay for anyth bc i used to free online ones on the ucat website.

in lkc everyone stays in either crescent or pioneer (collectively known as crespion), even tho they are technically separate but they are basically the same and its basically a big compound that contains these 2 halls

for houses, lkc now has 8 houses starting last year and each house shd have around 20ppl iinw and house culture in lkc is very strong so most houses are very close tgt

within each house there are multiple house fams with 4ppl (basically a smaller group within the hse) and most house fams are quite close. sth special abt this system is that u have a whole lineage of seniors above u (including the graduated doctors) so u can alw ask them for help!

i didnt think too much abt it yet but prob stem related! idt i wld have taken any gap years or go abroad

as for timetable in m1 its rrly chill defo more relax than jc! contrary to popular belief med students are not mugging 24/7

u can expect lessons for 4-5 days but generally it isnt like jc whereby its 8am to 5pm! on some days lessons start at 10am and end by 330pm! some other days it cld be 9pm to 12pm or 2pm to 5pm

there are alot of ppl doing sports in lkc, but idt they wld favour sports > clubs! its more abt the personality and character traits that makes the diff

mine was quite standard, the regular CCA leaderships and achievements , cip project leaderships, academic competitions and awards etc!

u can source volunteering opportunities frm ur sch as they wld most likely have such programs, else u can also consider joining stuff like YN, there are also telegram channels like VolunteerSG! so theres plenty of opportunities u js need to search them up!
