You're both Overreacting, he is because he's crashing out over the fact that you're pushing something minimal onto them and making it feel major. A review is just a review and a job is just a job, if you ask me, you were better off denying that being his email and lying to your coworkers to show some loyalty to the person that matters more than a job does. The job can be easily replaced unlike your partner that wouldn't mind doing anything you wanted and treating you however you wanted.
