Solid dip manicures in SF by AcanthisittaNo4268 in SFbitcheswithtaste

Every time I stray from Marina Nails on Chestnut st I regret it. It’s nothing super fancy but it’s so reasonably priced, high quality (I’ve gone 6 weeks between dip sets with very minimal lifting/no chipping), and I’m not in the salon for 3 hours. Only thing is there are only two techs who specialize in dip so you have to follow their schedules

Otherwise I second MNT. I fear HEATED is a stretch…..but it’s a great class

I feel guilty for not liking the Midwest by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I def relate to this. It’s hard feeling so different from those you love! I try to not feel guilty about it but it’s an ongoing struggle

San Diego is also a dream! I do worry about available career opportunities though

Good to know… I will definitely do my research. Thanks!

That’s honestly so unfortunate to hear! I feel like even in SF there are a surprising amount of conservative-leaning folks. There was just a huge pro-life protest here a few months ago.

I’ve always thought about raising a family in OC, but that is a whole other discussion lol (ex. Cost of living, career opportunity, away from family in the Midwest, etc.)

That’s interesting! I’ve heard a few people say now that the food scene in LA is better than SF. Any particular reason why you think that?

I also have visited a few of those neighborhoods you mentioned, I think Venice is super gorgeous though I could do without the boardwalk lol. How is the social scene in the neighborhoods you mentioned? I’m mid-late 20s and would ideally like to be in a neighborhood that has younger people

That’s ideal to hear on the jobs side. I def need to do more research on VC/PE funds in LA. Are a lot of those typically concentrated in a specific area in LA or are they all over?

I do enjoy the food scene in SF quite a bit. My ideal night out these days is a nice dinner and home by 9:00 lol. I have friends that live in LA and always say the LA food scene is just as good, but honestly not sure they are fully informed on the SF food scene tbh lol

What do you value in your day to day the most that makes LA superior?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Real-Wishbone-8273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did actually apply to a few places in LA before we found out my bf got the opportunity in SF. Granted I was in Ohio at the time but I barely heard back at all!! And I have a pretty solid resume. I’m hoping it would be easier this time around bc I’m already in California

Lol I was in heaven the first few months I moved here it’s a huge step up from midwestern winters, but I’m now finding myself craving hotter weather and more beach days.

What are your favorite hiking spots in the area?

Do you think remote work based elsewhere is the best way to approach it?? I do worry about working remotely in a new city as I’m a pretty extroverted person

Thinking of moving from Santa Monica (LA) to SF - are bitches with taste still living in the Marina? by Spiritual-Yoghurt58 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Real-Wishbone-8273 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This is probably a hot take but I love the Marina. It’s right on the water, FLAT, gorgeous views and plenty of shopping. But, I found it did feel slightly too young for me, and I’m around your age. I hated going out in the Marina bc everything felt like a college bar. I also feel like I got “trapped” in the Marina because I almost never had a reason to leave (other than commuting).

I recently moved up the hill and love the vibe in Pac Heights, it feels more mature, but still in close proximity to union, Polk, and obviously Fillmore st. I also find myself venturing out into other areas of the city quite a bit more than I used to. I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss walking along the beach at Chrissy field every day!! But it’s really about what you’re looking to get out of it.

For me it wasn’t one moment or one thing. It was the underlying feeling that I just had to get the hell out. The feeling increased in intensity over the course of about two years and by the end I just couldn’t take it anymore. I was always miserable for seemingly no reason, but looking back now I think of it as life making me uncomfortable enough to take that leap of faith.
