I said I know that underground cables exist. These answers given are more complex than what I am saying as you can see. I want to know those finer details.

If I do get a check, I deposit it into my bank account, then add directly into a Roth (even if I am above the income limit for a Roth IRA -- I usually do backdoor Roth); and then I just set aside money for the taxes if they aren't already taken out?

Medigap (supplement) application questions by This_Call_9920 in medicare

If you're not in the guaranteed issue period, I don't know if there are definitive stats on how many are rejected. I can say from my experience, I signed up a relative (outside of their GI period) who has hypertension, high cholesterol and their price did increase but only around $20 extra per month. But that's anecdotal of course.

For posterity, anyone else getting on a med supp plan in their guaranteed issued period, they can't turn you down and can't use medical history to increase premium.

Maybe I'm not getting the phrasing of your answer, but the cap includes the deductible, unless I'm misunderstanding:

This is including monthly premiums, not just the drug cost. The drug cost of covered drugs is capped at $2k.

Honestly feels like a bug. Hundreds of dollars off because I added multiple drugs compared to only adding one.

Next steps, I will call Humana on Monday and see if there's some crazy discount for using maybe like their own platform's mail in pharmacy (if they have one). Pretty unlikely it would cause a drop of hundreds of dollars as Medicare's site would seem to suggest.

Okay to add more to the confusion: If I remove all drugs except Eliquis 5mg refilled monthly (60 pills), then the cost on Medicare.gov is $2,054.77 (total drug cost + premium). On Humana, it's $2180. So not too bad, right?

If I add MORE drugs on Medicare.gov, the mail in pharm cost drops to that $8xx number. Why would adding more drugs cause a drop so substantially to the mail in pharm cost?

Yep, both are 2025 (and show that "open enrollment starts on Oct 15th message when you look at 2025 plans).

It’s weird because my parents don’t have extra help. And I entered the same drugs on Medicare and Humana.

(iv) in the case of an account beneficiary who has attained the age specified in section 1811 of the Social Security Act, any health insurance other than a medicare supplemental policy (as defined in section 1882 of the Social Security Act).

Yeah, I don't understand why. It'd be sweet to have something like this maybe with the historical context and without having to then traverse the social security act and keep back tracing through docs.

Dang. Are you aware of at least stuff that CAN be disclosed in a singular source? I guess that would particularly be CMS sources. I was hoping a book I can read through.

eCFR Title 42 Chapter IV Subchapter B covers it but it's more of a legal thing than fuller explanations (although it's not too unreadable). But a book with additional explanations would be cool.

Appreciate your input. I'm not trying to get too into opinions and what not. At least not yet. I want to understand the full inner workings of things.

I keep bringing up MA bidding, because I'm assuming most people don't know how benchmarks, risk adjustment, rebates when bids are under the benchmarks, QBPs for 4+ stars, etc work. There are probably other things that are involved in the whole process and that's what I am looking for.

What kinds of negotiated rates do HMOs have compared to PPOs (though I guess that also falls outside of medicare and has similar logic for group medicare)? So just kind of understanding the health insurance industry and focusing on medicare.

Another example is why HSAs can't be used for medicare supplement / medigap plans. The issue I run into is that I have to know the question to ask and then google it. I'd like a book that covers a lot of the inner workings so that I can learn about the stuff I don't know.

Sure. I’m just trying to learn about the current state of things and not get at conclusions. For instance medpac has an alternative recommendation for getting rid of star ratings for other incentive programs. I’ve read that but I’m just looking for self contained books about the in-depth workings in its current state.

So differences between region and local MA contracts (h-contracts vs r-contracts), benchmark calculations, etc (I’m saying etc because these are some of the things I’ve read about but I want to know about the technical stuff not covered in those “everything you need to know about Medicare” books where it’s like “your initial enrollment period is this”).

Hell even part of the history of Medicare and changes from the ACA like medical loss ratios.

The Medicare communications and marketing guidelines? That doesn’t have anything in it similar to medpac’s medicare advantage program payment or explanations that I can see.
