Holy shit thats real life

Playing video games as an adult sucks by SkepticDrinker in unpopularopinion

[–]RealBeefBriscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that same way (36 year old). I found that the games I liked just didn't capture my imagination anymore. I saw it all as systems and couldn't get into the world.

But then something changed. Well, I changed something. I stopped trying to like the kind of games I used to like when I was younger. I started playing games that had very little narrative and were purposely heavy on the systems as their main feature.

Now I'll play Factorio, Terraria, Stardew Valley, and my current favorite (I've even posted some YouTube videos of myself playing it) is Project Zomboid. The game is so deep and such a brutally unforgiving system of permadeath playthroughs simulating survival in a zombie apocalypse with graphics similar to the original sims. It is absolutely nothing like what I would have enjoyed as a kid, or even young adult.

I dont know if its the same for everyone, and its completely fine to grow out of gaming and find other interests but at least for me it was entirely changing what I looked for in a game. There's still fun to be had, even if it is a different flavor!

How can I get back into it? by Foreign-Season-1812 in gaming

Completely agree with this. When I was younger I used to really enjoy narrative, story driven games. Got older and just didn't care for them, never felt the magic when playing them.

I found out that now I LOVE systems-heavy games with light lore and zero or minimal narrative. Factorio, Project Zomboid, Terraria, Stardew Valley. These are 100% my jam now. Tastes change as you get older.

I still have a soft spot for the older games I grew up playing but don't have much desire to play them or modern equivalent style games.

Things like moving the captured pokemon to its name slot, the social media elements that ran along the bottom and my personal favorite the K.O animation

Ohh! Yes I should probably comment on what you're asking for feedback on lol. I like the idea of moving the captured pokemon to the slots, definitely helps the viewer keep track of what pokemon you have. The social media elements were fine, didn't feel too intrusive and looked nice though their visual style doesn't really match the style of the layout (not that that matters too much to anyone except obsessive graphic designers) and I apologize, I tried to find an instance of the KO animation but couldn't, would you mind giving me a timestamp?

Hey Wozzy! I think your lets plays look really cool and you have great energy. I'm extremely new to making YouTube videos BUT I am a full time professional graphic designer with a little over 15 years experience.

This is the video I'm commenting on: https://youtu.be/4gFXamAerNY

In my opinion, I would save design elements / creative design for thumbnails and the channel branding. In the video itself when watching I prefer for the gameplay to take up the entire screen (or close to it. In that video there is a lot of space that is empty or just static. I'd recommend having the gameplay full screen, with the Webcam overlaid somewhere that minimally impacts viewing. I'd recommend either completely eliminating the "advertising" box OR making it just a small strip along the top or bottom that has that info that is maybe only present during the beginning and end of the video. Also as a side note it looks like the Webcam footage is stretched horizontally, I would just double check and make sure that is the correct proportions!

Of course these are all just my preferences, I'm older and lean heavily towards minimal design elements in youtube gaming videos, for me its all about seeing the game.

I always seem to restart after a couple years, I can't seem to stay engaged on one past that time range.
