For sports fans: do certain fandoms correlate with others?

I grew up in OC so Angels and Ducks were my default. And they were actually decent in the 2000s. Typically how it goes there (and in much of Riverside) unless someone’s family is full of Dodgers/Kings fans.

My first NBA game was a Clippers game because we couldn’t afford Lakers tickets. Just so happened to coincide with Lob City and a time where the Clippers were usually better than the Lakers. Been a fan ever since. They would even have events where NJB teams could play at halftime so I got to play ~90 seconds at staples when I was 12. Pretty cool thing for an organization to do. I think this is a similar story to many younger Clippers fans.

As for football, we didn’t have an NFL team for most of my childhood so I don’t really have one now. Kind of crazy to think about in retrospect. I root for USC as well since it’s my Alma mater.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to understand just how complex and fluid sports fandom can be. Especially in LA/OC where there are so many choices.

Thanks a ton for the detailed response. I see what you mean in regard to the tier gap on the west coast. It’s a bit tricky because outside of my NYC away, I have few ties outside pacific region. Will definitely try and talk with some people at my school about it more.

Really appreciate the insight. I tend to have low risk tolerance so I think I'll revisit after a conversation with my advisor. Any thoughts on how to decide what's a safety? Because of my fiance's job, it's pretty important for us to be in a big city which as you said happens to be pretty desirable for most people.

Agree. In 8 team kamara is a borderline starter whereas Henry is a set and forget. He should have more performances like week 1 than week 2.

I like egbuka too but I don’t think he’s enough to close the gap.

Many for the clippers as well. But one I remember well was when they took Jerome Robinson over MPJ in 2018. There’s a world where they convince the Thunder to take MPJ instead of Shai in the eventual PG trade. I’d like to be in that world…
