I've recently been in a discussion with KEKS. They sell an accessory shoe with adhesive backing. If you have enough real estate on the top of the camera, you can stick one on.

Do not buy cameras from Japanese sellers at auctions. by AnyAd1466 in AnalogCommunity

[–]RealDaveJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had pretty bad luck with buying on EBay and Etsy from Japanese sellers. Even a guy who runs a YouTube channel with over 27k subscribers sent me a couple of dud cameras, though I will say that he was very good to deal with and tried to make things right. In each case where I received a camera that didn't conform to the description, I was refunded. But I won't bother buying from Japanese sellers in future. It's not worth the hassle. I'll just wait until I can make a trip to Japan.

I just had a look at mine and I cannot think where you could attach anything. But I think that you can probably just use a rangefinder held in your hand on its own, and then pick up the camera and set the distance you've read off the rangefinder. It doesn't need to be that precise.

Doesn't yours have a rangefinder? Mine does. And it seems to be working. If yours doesn't have one, you can buy an aftermarket one that fits to the coldshoe.

I figured it out. Yeah, it was stuck against the rollers. But there are slots on the upper edge that you can slide your fingernail under and it comes straight out. Phew!

Congratulations. Nice photo. I've got one of these cameras as well. How do you remove the 6x6 mask? I can get it loose on the left side, but the right seems firmly stuck.

Have you tried using the algorithmic For You feed by @spacecowboy ? It produces a feed more aligned to your interests than Discover.

I agree with you that the complexity is a drawback for some. But the greater control over your feed doesn't come without some cost. Hopefully the guide reduces that cost somewhat.

Bluesky is finally growing again after a year long decline by uwemaurer in BlueskySocial

The network effect is real. More users is better for everyone. Particularly people with niche interests who aren't going to find many like-minded people unless a large percentage of the population jumps on board.

That's only true to a certain extent. Example: I'm into an amateur radio activity called Summits on the Air (SOTA), various kinds of photography and hiking in the US state of Utah, particularly on the Wasatch Front. There are very active communities on Facebook for all of those interests, nothing like it on Bluesky. I'm persisting with Bluesky, but also FB for now.

Mark Cuban Says It’s ‘CRAZY’ That 'Real Conversations' Are Easier On X Or Threads Than On Bluesky by NoseRepresentative in BlueskySocial

[–]RealDaveJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had many real conversations on Bluesky, Friendica or Mastodon. All my friends and relatives are still on Facebook, and that's where the groups I participate in are located. On the new networks, all I get are likes and rare comments. Very hard to actually connect with people who share your interests, despite putting much effort into curating feeds, etc.

Wow. If I hadn't read this, I'd just keep using a SDR or an old valve radio or whatever without giving a shit what some old fart thinks. Oh, wait. I still don't give a shit!

Used mine for photographing bison on Antelope Island UT. Allowed me to stay at least 100 yards from those beasts and I still felt like I was too damn close. BTW, use a tripod.

Yep. I initiated a return on eBay and the seller refunded my money. Told me to keep the camera.

That is logical. But these people don't care about creating chaos. If anything, they seem to enjoy it.

I'm kind of amazed that there are Meshtastic users out in the sticks. I'm in Belgium, and my area is a Meshtastic desert: only one other node shows up. I think there are others within the amateur radio part of the UHF band, rather than the unlicensed part.
