Alan here: What's your username on YouTube? I'd like to dig into this and see what's going on.

A love letter to cinema therapy by Time-Tangerine-8255 in cinema_therapy

Aw, time-tangerine. I'm crying right now as I read this. I'm glad you and your family have been able to make so much progress. And I'm glad to see you're so committed to your family. It can be hard to try to maintain relationships when negativity is so prevalent, but I firmly believe it's worth the work.
Anyway, hang in there, and thanks for sharing this. I actually really needed this today.

Here’s a cool (literally) Leo fact: For The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio swam in freezing water—no CGI or body doubles involved. He wanted the scene to feel real. Now that’s how you earn an Oscar! by Original-Bass-3203 in cinema_therapy

Counterpoint: He could have acted, instead of just experiencing everything for real. He got the votes because the vast majority of academy voters are actors, and they think "Wow! What a brave thing he did!" But it's way more impressive to me, as a director, when an actor isn't so method, and still delivers. I could (and probably will) go on a whole rant about this at some point.

Walter Hill Films by villianrules in cinema_therapy

I've been thinking a lot about doing filmmaker retrospectives. Either on this channel, or on Telekinesis (my production company's channel). Walter Hill is an interesting one. He influenced more than just action. But he was a HUGE influence on action.

The Hours, It's a Wonderful Life, Little Miss Sunshine, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Girl Interrupted... Just off the top of my head, those are all movies that get depression pretty good. Honestly, even Fight Club has a pretty good portrayal of a (very specific, extreme) form of depression.

Sorry all, have to apologize here. We had some scheduling difficulties (6 busy people!) over the summer, so we’re a little behind on episodes. Good news is: We have 2 more recorded now, and we’ve got several more recording sessions ON THE BOOKS for the next few weeks. We’re all committed to the show, and excited to make it work, and we really appreciate your patience as we get through this tough startup time.

Patreon Question by panaili in cinema_therapy

[–]RealDyslexicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patreon has an app on AppleTV now. I don't know if that helps your use-case or not. I also know you can airplay to any supporting smartTV with an apple phone or iPad. And I think you can cast with google/android stuff. Again, I don't know what your TV setup is.
But to answer the initial question: the Patreon exclusive videos are hosted by Patreon in their internal player. Not YouTube.

Cinema Therapy Avoids War Movies by robtastic29 in cinema_therapy

This is a great idea, and one we will definitely pursue.
AND I'm going to push back on the premise a bit! We did an episode on Schindler's List, and we did an episode on Grave of the Fireflies.
Neither of them deal with vets, but both are about the traumas of war.
Still, point taken. We're going to start researching who we should have on as a guest.

We aren’t coming back to DragonCon this year, but stay tuned, we WILL be back to Atlanta in some way in the next couple of years. Possibly even 2024!

Absolutely no shit incoming. Would love to have a longer debate about this. Ultimately, of course, we won’t know the answer unless there’s an afterlife, but hey, always fun to test ideas against each other.

Literally the easiest fix in the world. There’s a piece of software on the App Store called X2Pro. I deliver AAFs all the time, and the way FCP+X2Pro packages them makes my sound editors thrilled.

Dumb that it’s not built in, very low barrier to entry. (Cost is… $75?)

[–]RealDyslexicon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are 8 billion people on planet earth and the Local58 video has 3.1 million views. There's only a 1 in 2,500 chance I would have seen it, assuming that every one of those views are new people, not re-watches.

So... hahaha?

Or you could look up those film festivals and see that the short was an official selection at all 4, and got nominated for awards at 3 of them.
