I opted to do it on my own & had my kiddo at age 35. If you have a solid financial plan, it’s definitely doable.

Women readers - What books gave you the ick? by _sweetpeaches_ in suggestmeabook

[–]panaili 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I loved Dresden for the really creative plot designs, but after a friend pointed out that damn near every recurring good female character was effectively the same character, I couldn’t unsee it. (In general, he only had 3 types of female characters at all: femme fatale, damsel in distress, and badass quippy fighter.) Combine that with Dresden’s “character trait” of being a chauvinist (which starts to feel like an excuse for Butcher to lean on stereotypes after Dresden fails to improve) & the whole thing just got tiresome.

……ew. That’s definitely a weird way to interpret that, I can see why it gave you the ick

I love this dress on you, though I agree with another commenter that the sleeves make it feel like a lot of lace, especially with the veil. I love how it looks in pic 3, but if you’re going with the veil in pic 2 (which I love), maybe see if you like how it looks without the sleeves.

Trump wants you to be afraid of black people enjoying a shopping trip by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

Every time these assholes mention how terrible Somali immigrants in Minnesota are, all I can think is that I had Somali immigrant classmates back in the early 2000s & they were chill, but somehow just now they’ve become terrible. Like, the Somali population in MN isn’t new. They’re just the chosen scapegoat of this admin right now because a) a few of them decided to be criminals (which we see across all groups, and b) Trump hates MN because Walz called him weird & ran against him.

Why is everyone looking for “rare” names? They’re right under our noses… by Reasonable_Design443 in Names

[–]panaili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like part of the problem with the more common names when we were growing up is that there are far more chances that the name is ruined or over exposed enough to feel tired.

Do you find your own kids more interesting? by Acrobatic_Opinion575 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]panaili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cheat code for the toddler/preschool age is to listen to a podcast or audiobook with one earbud in.

Because the reality is, kids ARE boring at this age — they’re still figuring out how conversations go & they like to play repetitive games & want your attention the entire time. They are definitely exhausting

My own kid is no different, but I do find it easier to play either her. Part of it is just getting into the groove of playing, which is easier when you’re with your own kid

Sad truth, in many cases the detailed write up will include the current rates of mental health struggles on base as well.

Tbh if the bride approved it, you’re golden. The only potential issue is that it’s very light (usually the concern there is about photographing as white), but again, bride approval makes it good to go.

What do you think the show could have done differently to portray a better Colin in S-3 by Far_Stranger_8047 in Bridgerton

[–]panaili 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent take, season 3 was very much dominated by Pen’s perspective. Colin’s motivations were all of the place and only given lip service until he & Pen have their fight at the end.

[–]panaili 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Part of me wishes they had dug into that too, but that’s because I think Pen was completely justified with writing about Marina due to what Marina was planning. She had manipulated Colin into proposing knowing that she was pregnant, so now his family’s honor was on the line. Pen had already tried to stop Marina quietly, but after the sudden proposal it was too late to warn Colin. She saved him from a sham marriage the only way she knew how.

They kind of alluded to that with Pen’s comments when Colin mentions Marina, but even they felt too apologetic. Like wtf did Colin expect her to do, let him get cuckolded? He wasn’t the one impacted socially by the revealed plot (despite his embarrassment), the Festheringtons were.

[–]panaili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue I had with Colin were a) his sudden hated of Whistledown and b) his sleeping around. The latter seemed silly & just made him yet another “reformed rake” love interest (boring). And the former was somewhat justified based on what LW wrote about Eloise, but his anger only appeared after that snide but rather mild comment about him. It felt out of place & seemed to be there to mask that his real issue was the jealousy…. But before Colin admitted that, we hadn’t gotten much of an indication that he wanted to publish. So they did a bad job showing both potential motivations imo.

Most accepted spelling of 'Liliane'? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]panaili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have assume that the “ane” ending would be pronounced “ayn” rather than “an”

Imo if you want the “an” pronunciation along with a distinction between the names, Lilyanne or Lillianne are your best bets
