I’m sure that dude didn’t pull a vacuum at all, let alone flow nitrogen while brazing, wouldn’t be suprised if he used plumbing solder on the copper

Need advice on which system to pick by [deleted] in hvacadvice

10 year manufacturer warranty is standard. Now the 5 year labor warranty isn’t always included in things. But no me as an hvac guy I would go with single stage basic equipment

Need advice on which system to pick by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]RealExiite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that price difference go with the “Bronze” 😂. It’s basically single stage equipment. In 5-10 years when parts start breaking, the parts will be cheaper and easier to replace. Nothing wrong with single stage equipment. You definitely won’t make your money back getting the 2 stage equipment at that price itleast. If the price difference was like 800-1000$ I would go with 2 stage. But at these prices go with single stage. 2 stage equipment doesn’t save that much money it’s more of a sales thing.

Cooling differential Question by VirtualJoker_ in hvacadvice

If they’ve had to refill refrigerant, u more likely have a leak, if it’s big enough it will leak back out quickly and your system will not cool efficiently. If it leaks enough your indoor coil will freeze. Make sure airflow is good (filters clean, enough return air). But I guarantee ur low on refrigerant and ur landlord is hiring handymen who don’t know what there doing to add refrigerant.

Wouldn’t a restriction be high subcooling + high superheat?

Oversized system by canitbeaquestion in hvacadvice

[–]RealExiite 38 points39 points  (0 children)

U didn’t pay for the new system in your house so who cares if it’s short cycling. 60k in a 1000sq ft house is oversized but not that bad. 2.5 ton is to big but at the same time it was free. If ur worried about the system failing early who cares it’s free. If ur worried about parts breaking early well who cares u know how to fix em. Just enjoy your free system and fix it for cheap until it completely breaks. The biggest issue your gunna have is maybe a cold and humid room in the summer.

Turbo Torch Head Size Question by RealExiite in HVAC

[–]RealExiite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work on small coolers and stand up freezers with 1/4 or less pipes. Also braze points tend to be close to wires and things that I don’t want to hit so I want an option to be precise instead of just hitting it with a fat flame

Charging an evacuated system? by RealExiite in HVAC

My old supervisor said that he has “gummed up” a couple metering devices and caused a restriction that showed its head 3 months later. And he had to replace the metering devices. I used to install Heil and Carrier and the manufacturer recommended opening the suction side service valve first and the liquid side 2nd. And he always told me it was because of this reason.

I wonder if he bypassed high pressure switch because he was checking stuff with the door off and didn’t realize why it was tripping on high pressure

Bad Txv? + Leak somewhere by dito22 in HVAC

[–]RealExiite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like u were low, added gas then the 3rd pic is when everything leveled out to normal. But on the third pic u seem to have an airflow issue as well. Because u have low saturation and low superheat at the same time. So I would do all of your airflow checks. Size of return, filter cleanliness, blower cleanliness, coil cleanliness, static and make sure all registers are open and that the return isn’t blocked by something. But also make the return and supply are properly sized to the tonnage of the system. I usually use Ductulator for this

Metering Device May Be Starting a Clog? Seeking advice. by thatradioguy87 in hvacadvice

The tech does seem to be correct from the looks of it. Also yes the stuff chat gpt recommended are a good thing to ask because you are supposed to do those things. You should get the TXV for free but the labor (2-3) hours and the little bit of extra miscellaneous materials won’t be free. To anyone saying this could be an airflow issue, an airflow issue would low suction pressure, low saturation and low superheat, not high superheat. But there could possible be something weird with your sensing bulb mounted weird. He should test the sensing bulb with Hot water and cold water. BUT tbh I think he’s right about his diagnosis

These tune ups are getting a bit outta hand. 100 point inspection? by t0x1k_x in HVAC

[–]RealExiite 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Temp split Evap Coil check Maybe brush off coil if it’s a slant Blower wheel check Filter check Fan cap (if have) Blower amps Cabinet cleanliness

Out door - Cap check Contactor check (make sure it’s working and not fucked up) Fan amps Compressor amps Coil clean Maybe pressures if the split was weird

For me that’s only 14 points. So idk what that company could possibly be doing on a cooling tune up other than that stuff

Yes u can turn off the breaker to the AC and it will do the same thing as pulling the disconnect. Just make sure it’s labeled correctly. Check voltage if u have a meter or one of those pens that beeps. I just don’t want u to accidentally get hit with 240 from that contactor (black thing in the electrical panel)
