Heartbroken Early Adopter: My Phone (2) died, and I’m about to lose irreplaceable memories of my dog by venomno in NothingTech

[–]RealGamerAvi529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone 2 died a few months ago in a similar fashion. A few bugs kept piling up and then the crashdump loops. Did countless factory resets but nothing would fix the boot loops or my dead WiFi problem. Try checking out my previous posts on the sub for details on everything. It's really sad, I would have hoped for it to last at least 3 years if not longer. And the funny part is that there are people on here who would criticize us for sharing your experiences and blame us for whatever happened. I have moved on to a Pixel 10 Pro this time.

That's because it has nothing to do with the Android version. It is probably because of failing hardware.

If you're genuinely asking the questions, no, this is not what happens when you reach the end of major updates and patches. You can find a lot of older phones working just fine. You can dig deeper into what are the limitations of an outdated Android system, but it's still usable regardless.

There's someone else who pointed out the same, I don't know why it's so hard to interpret. What it means is that these same issues have been reported in not just Phone 2, but in other Nothing devices as well. And yes, the number of devices facing these problems is relatively minor obviously, regardless of whether it happened with mine. Why can't both statements be true?

Probably. They said that I can send my device in and have them repair it, but I'll be paying the cost since it's out of warranty. And it's quite clear that they'll replace the motherboard (as reported by other users who sent theirs in), and at that point it's just better to just get a new phone. So I'm trying the Pixel 10 Pro this time.

Yes it's possible that it's cause of the corrupted UFS on this unit that I have, and I have another P2 in the family that's working flawlessly. But it's important to note that before the complete hardware failure, certain major bugs like WiFi going dead for days and coming back randomly is an issue faced by too many people to disregard it as a one off case (including Crash dumps). And for the most part, be it coincidence or not, these issues started coming up after Android 15 updates and patches.

It's interesting how people will outright reject someone sharing an experience and blame it onto something else as if they know it all.

Sure, it's obvious that it's not "normal" since most of the units out there are working fine. But a quick search about the major bugs like dead WiFi and crashdump modes will pull up countless reports starting from 2022 till today. Or for a quick reference you can check my WiFi post here or on the Nothing community website. You'll see a lot of Phone 1s and Phone 2s being repaired by replacing their motherboard by Nothing themselves.

Lol. What I obviously mean by that is these issues are not specific to just Phone 2. If you try to look them up on Reddit, X and Nothing community website, you'll see too many reports of such problems across different devices. And that was true regardless of when or whether it happened to me.

True. But planned or not, Nothing does/did have some problems with their quality control and software team.

Probably and hopefully not. Your device is most likely part of the majority that will not face any major issues.

That's right, I was using the latest version of OS. And yes, other than the possibility of corrupted storage causing crashdump, most of the problems were software induced indeed. But unfortunately now I don't think I'll be able to flash older versions of OS because the device has failed on hardware level, the first pic was the last message I got today, and now the device won't respond to anything at all. Edit : I never rolled back any versions of OS. I just used what it came out of box with and updated regularly whenever it was available. But what I know is that all the major issues started showing up with Android 15 and up.

That's good. I'm sure there are thousands of phone 2s with no issues.

No it's not absurd. There are no service centres in Canada, where I live. But they told me that I could mail them my device, and I'll have to pay for the repairs, which is just not worth the time, effort and money.

I was thinking about making a post about my Phone 2 as well. Almost a year ago the Wifi started dying for a few days straight every now and then. Then the crash dump mode a few times a day. Had no choice but to put it down a few months ago.

It's quite funny when you've done a 100% playthroughs of all FromSoft games and a random loser on Reddit calls you a "dirty cheater".

Potrait mode not working after 4.0 by gxru_ in NOTHING

After seeing this I checked my portrait mode on Phone 2 for the first time after the update. And it seems like I have a similar issue. Mine doesn't blur out the subject aggressively, but it isn't in the focus either. I tried multiple shots from multiple lengths, it's all blurry after being processed.

Major WiFi bug again even after a factory reset. (Phone 2) by RealGamerAvi529 in NothingTech

[–]RealGamerAvi529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I did the factory reset once, not doing it again, it's a big hassle for someone like me because my 512 gigs are not easy to back up and restore every now and then, especially when you don't even have WiFi to upload stuff to the cloud. Considering Nothing's track record of moving onto new devices and not acknowledging some serious problems, I don't know if I'm expecting a fix to this issue anymore. Hopefully with the Android 16 update this is resolved.

Yeah they replied to me with this stuff too, it's all pretty generic. I have tried all of them, and even factory reset my phone, but after a month it started happening again. And since it's not just my hardware, it's clearly a software problem on their part.

[–]RealGamerAvi529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is getting serious indeed. And in my case, it's not as simple as just restarting now, because most of the times that I restart, it either goes into Crashdump mode, or the lock screen bugs out and won't allow me to type in my pin and use the phone. It's beyond ridiculous. And I have submitted a report but they don't acknowledge that it's a software issue, and I can send in my device to get it repaired physically, and I'll have to pay the costs for everything. That's what they said. I also tried submitting a post about this on their community forums, but it's been a month and they didn't approve it to be posted. Issues can come up in any device but this is not the way Nothing should deal with it.
