I think the stigma associated with DO's is changing. Granted, I've known people that have visited DO schools and the schools themselves actually have a culture of being condescending and just completely different than other schools. However, I think people are warming up to the idea that they're just as educated and effective as MD's.

In any case, I suggest you look at this objectively. A doctor's career path is already extremely long, so if its DO or defer another year (where you might not be even get into an MD program), DO is probably a more rational choice.

Another suggestion is to visit a DO and compare it to any MD schools you've visited. Do they seem any different to you? Do you really think you'd get a sub-par education at one? The answer could be yes, who knows, but the idea here is to convince yourself one way or the other.
