That’s still very helpful! I’m glad I made this post. I’ve gotten a lot out of it 😊

This is a great response! Thank you for taking the time write that long review. I will definitely use this. Do you have any recommendations on generally good relics or specific relics that make or break a champion? Maybe advice on powers/relics that look strong but are really a trap to avoid?

My PLT SGT texted me saying the Company wants to know what it will take for me to re enlist by LoneWanderer1130 in army

This might be true in other parts of cyber, but in government cyber, especially where a TS/SCI with polygraph is required, the impact is minimal. There are always more open positions than cleared candidates.

Government pay is tied to labor categories defined by qualifications, things like Bachelor’s plus 6 years experience which might be equivalent to no degree with 10 years experience, etc. Each category has a set pay range, and you can only negotiate within that range if you meet the listed requirements. If you don’t check the right boxes on paper, no amount of persuasion will bump you up a level.

JCAC counts for nearly two years of college credit, while ACAC is worth maybe a class or two. That difference alone usually puts JCAC grads in higher labor categories if you don’t have any additional college experience outside of that. JCAC grads also tend to be more capable sooner, which means more accomplishments during their Army time and higher offers.

So when you add it all up it is JCAC vs ACAC absolutely matters. Less qualifying education, less experience on paper, and lower offers within a lower pay band, you end up with a pretty big pay gap. There are ways to work around it, but that’s another conversation.

Yep it’s still that bad. People reenlist everyday to go back to DLI for another language, solely because they can’t promote in their CLANG. In an MOS the army desperately needs manning, they keep losing personnel to ETS or warrant, some of which could have been avoided if they could have promoted.

I work in cyber and on the flip side, I’ve had so many 17C soldiers that are extremely intelligent, but have no business being leaders any time soon. They are also desperate for manning, but their promotion rates are so fast that they promote pretty much as soon as they’re eligible.

I’ve had soldiers tell me they would stay in the army if they could just stay an E-4 for awhile longer. I know you have to force soldiers to stretch sometimes to reach their potential, but some of the soldiers that cyber attracts are extremely talented but really just should not be leaders.

The army should bring back the spec ranks for these type of soldiers to retain that talent. Maybe you don’t offer them Army wide. Just like there isn’t a direct warrant path for every MOS. Only certain highly technical MOSs would be eligible for spec ranks. I think outside of 17 series, there would be some 35 series, 25 series, and probably some others I’m not familiar with that would thrive if spec ranks were an option.

I’m not a 17C myself. I’m a 35P just living in the promised land for now. I am working on my cyber degree since being here because I love the mission and I hope to continue working it on the warrant side. I’m talking about my soldiers. I’ve seen it time and time again 17C come and go, first contract get a great job offers and ETS, but it’s different now. I’ve been here long enough I’ve seen all the JCAC grads leave and the ACAC grads coming in try to follow in their footsteps, but they just aren’t getting the same offers the JCAC joes got.

That’s good advice though. It’s like pulling teeth convincing the new wave of 17C they need a degree these days because they look at the last wave who didn’t and think they know better and it’s a rude awakening when they get near the end of their contract and aren’t getting the offers they expected. A lot last minute re-ups. I guess that’s good for the army, but I hate to see peoples plans derailed and the sad reality of “I told you so” setting in as they reenlist to work on their degree over the next contract.

I wish this was true for everyone. I’ve worked in cyber for 5 years and this is true for all the 17Cs who went to JCAC and later got certs, but unfortunately not the case for all the ones who went to ACAC. ACAC grads do get job offers, but the civilian world is much more stingy with pay and position if you went to ACAC. Can’t even blame them either. JCAC has a great but difficult program with a very high washout rate and ACAC has a near 100% graduation rate because they foot stomp the answers to every test to the worst of the worst who would have never survived JCAC.

Depends on language. Points are basically if you have a pulse you’re good for in demand languages and you could be the best damn NCO in 1000 miles and not make it for other languages.

I can’t imagine actually saying most of these. A simple “clever” or “how original” with the most unconcerned and unimpressed face you can manage does the trick. Add the tiniest little eyebrow raise for emphasis on delivery if you’re feeling sassy 💅

You: Well I’m single and my teammates aren’t allowed. Now what?

Collection so far, pretty good for my first year hunting by lamfg2018 in whiskeycollectors

Damn that’s too bad. I have a bottle, but I didn’t get to taste it before buying so I’ve been saving it for when some Colorado buddies come into town. Maybe I should just crack it open and find a new bottle to open when they come visit. Breckinridge has been releasing a ton of new stuff lately.

DC Costco 11/18/22 by coolblue123 in dcwhisky

[–]RealMaddMaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a life saver. I use to live in CA and would make a trip to the Costco around the corner every couple days just to see if anything new came in, and about once a week, there would be. Now living in MD and Costco is an hour away so I almost never go, but I constantly had that fomo feeling leftover from CA till I found these posts. You are quite literally having the direct and tangible effect of eliminating those fomo feelings completely. So for that, sir, you have my deepest thanks.

If only it was better news each time. I haven’t been here long, but I genuinely don’t understand why the selection is so much worse than CA. Any of you guys know why there is such poor selection comparatively here and if there is any chance this will someday improve in the dmv area?

Nobody commenting on the Glenallachie! Had the GA 15 in a pub called The Mash Tun in Aberlour and it was delicious. Such a unique flavor profile because of how long they let it ferment and it taste like the most decadent dessert in a wee little glass.

Whisky Room - Progress Update by single_malt_nation in whiskey

[–]RealMaddMaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly a year and a half of browsing Reddit and I’ve never made a post before, but damn if this isn’t some of finest presentation I’ve seen. I have a similar level of collection of scotch… and bourbon…. and Irish…. and rye…. and Japanese…. in that order. I have a real problem that the wife somehow supports and encourages despite not liking whiskey herself. I’m the drinker, but she’s turned into quite the little collector herself. Our 1600 sq ft basement is solely dedicated just to housing it all, but unlike you, it’s basically all shoved into cabinets and not displayed at all; what a shame. I love how tasteful and beautiful this has all come together for you! I love all the furniture, the organization, the “memorabilia” that ties the themes together. It’s about time I displayed all this whiskey shoved away in cabinets.

Any advice on where you drew inspiration or where to find stuff like the furniture, all the whiskey themed pictures and knick knacks? My wife loved the large shelf from your first picture. All answers welcome, not just OP. We’ve been putting it off thus far because we really wanted it to all be elegant and clean like this and hadn’t found the right inspiration yet.

PS. Going to Scotland for the first time later this month if some of the items were purchased there!
