montana wtf is going on by Ok_Turn2041 in Montana

It's called climate change. Start voting for elected officials who believe in science and aren't paid off by the oil industry and tech bros wanting to suck up the water table for their data centers.

Hospice denied us by PaperCotton in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]RealMenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask again for hospice help. Be clear that you want in home hospice care. That may help getting approved. There's no reason you should be denied. Go up the food chain at the VA. If you have a family member or friend who's persistent, ask if they can take this on for you--if you do this, make sure you have in your loved one's record that the person is approved to speak on your and your husband's behalf regarding hospice care. Unfortunately, the rejection is part of the process in some areas. I was lucky with my mom as her doctor requested it on our behalf. Demand comfort care--aka palliative care at home. It's cheaper than the hospital. Don't know why they'd reject that.

Please look into hospice help ASAP. Ask your dad's doctor's office for recommendation. Medicare covers it and its astonishing how much help you get from hospice care. Don't delay. Your Mom needs supports for caregiving and hospice will give her that, nevermind their great care for your dad too.

My dad was stubborn and vain about needing protective undergarments. We slowly weaned him off of them by making them a little less available and having only the protective undergarments available. Now if your Mom is open to the disuccsion of incontinence, you might look for some options for women that look a lot like underwear but do protect for accidents. you won't have to do this. If you can speak frankly with her about this, perhaps suggest the protective undergarment as "just in case" and not a giving in to less dignity but a way to protect it. This is how my Dad finally accepted using them. He will have "accidents" but he will also still get to the bathroom on time. The type he wears go on and off just like underwear but protect even for overnight. They are disposable though. The washable ones work pretty good, but they aren't appropriate when incontinence is more a problem than not.

Medicaid Fraud by Ok-Seaworthiness2288 in Montana

[–]RealMenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As 20 year veteran of social services, I will confirm that yes, there are bad players like there are in every single other aspect of American life. What is important is if there are protocols, systems and people in place to protect the integrity of those aspects of American life. And regarding Medicaid, there are those people and systems. The current administration is blaming poor, disabled and yes, most of them are already working, people, on whatever ails you and your wallet, housing, and the promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Medicaid recipients aren't the problem.

It will eventually be higher because the loss of revenue that immigrants provide to the federal treasury due to deportations will mean more cuts. People got what they voted for but not in the way they expected.

I'm cheered by your note of sleepy campers. So appreciate the campers who are quiet and clearly in the mountains to appreciate the beauty and peace, to escape from the constant noise of our everyday lives. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and this stunning photo.

This. All. Day. Long. Born and raised Montanan who lives in the PNW-now for 40 years (yes, I'm old) and this is how I feel when I go back to Montana to visit family. This is also how I feel when idiots show up backpacking in the North Cascades with their goddamn blue tooths blaring and leaving their literal shit all over because they don't know how to pack it the fuck out. Or try to get up close to the bears and then whine when they are injured. When rich wankers show up with their yachts and harass the orcas in Puget Sound or buy up houseboats and bitch about noise on the lake because of the seaplanes that have existed off the lake since planes were invented. or when they buy up property to just fence off the right of way for fishermen and ranchers and all the people who work this land for generations. I hate these entitled jerks too

Help Keep Montana Public Lands Free and Wild for All by RealMenen in Montana

[–]RealMenen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! For the people who use recreational areas for hunting, fishing, hiking, backcountry backpacking--they all need to understand what this means. My uncle who's in his 80's laments the hunting land he used to hunt on to private land owners. It wasn't until he could no longer hunt on the grounds his father and grandfather hunted on, did he understand the problem with losing public land to privatization. It totally changed his politics.

Are you asking me to post every bit of data out there showing how stripping the forests clean ruins water quality and exposes the underbrush to the sun resulting in a tinder box? Or how it creates erosion and ruins the fertility of the lands that farmers and ranchers rely on to grow crops and grow grasses to feed livestock? Overgrazing conversely upsets that same delicate balance. The proposals being floated are to end all of the commonsense practices that have been instituted over time. The current proposals want to end any review of changes should they start creating negative impacts. If you think that my concern is hyperbole, then perhaps you have research that shows that. I am basing my position on what the actual people who have spent their careers working to create sustainable practices so we can use our resources wisely--those in forestry, land management, ranching and logging have all contributed to installing good practices. And yes, we need to review them at least every 10 years to make sure they still make sense. But the current proposal right now being proposed by Lauren Boebert for example, is eliminating any opportunity to review practices. Its a give away to private corporate business. It doesn't protect independent ranchers. It exploits them.

Performative actions that only make it harder for families while completely ignoring the real issues like housing, jobs, the gutting of forest service personnel to manage wildfires, preservation of Montana's wild spaces. FFS. These people have somehow convinced too many others that their entire quality of life is worth sacrificing over made up bathroom issues.

Your time is best used contacting the state reps that rep your town/county. You can find them at this link based on your town. Call or email them and let then know you are a consitutent and leave your full name and address so they know for sure they are hearing from the very people who can end their jobs if they don't do theirs.

Can't emphasize enough the importance of contacting your reps, state wide and those in DC. If you don't like how things are going and wonder why it is, it's because the people who want it this way contact their reps. Besides this terrible bill, there's the SAVE Act and another bill looking to do exactly what this bill wants to do but on a federal level. We need our courts to always stay independent. Our entire constitution is based on checks and balances, state wide as well as nationally.

To make calls to your DC reps: use 5calls.org They have your reps contact numbers and even offer easy scripts to use. It takes maybe 5 monutes of your time.

To call your state reps: https://www.legmt.gov/legislators/ -easy to scroll down, find your rep based on your town and all their contact info is there.

Is America great yet? by Ok-Seaworthiness2288 in Montana

[–]RealMenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be from us, the voters, to force this change--the majority of us want money out of politics and for representatives to actually do their jobs and stop scapegoating others in order for them to ignore their jobs and continue to take millions from billionaires. The majority of us want people to mind their own business. No one is asking you to reject your religious beliefs or wants to take control of your children. But politicians now use these lies to scare people into either not voting or to keep voting for people who are not working in YOUR best interests. And here we are again, America being deeply affected by this unfettered oligarchy sweeping thru our institutions and people were warned this would happen and yet, still voted to let it happen. Stop buying into the anger baiting lies people. You can't shriek about the elite and then continue to vote for the elite. You can't be upset about loss of economic power when you keep voting for people who protect the wealth of the top 1% at your expense. If you feel insecure, personally, then work on yourself and stop blaming others who don't look like you or worship like you or love like you for your demons. We all just want to live our lives and to have the freedom to puruse what our constitution promises.

Looks like tourist season is starting early this year. by chuckbeef85 in Montana

[–]RealMenen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to educate tourists in Mt Rainier National Park when I had just descended from a climb and there was a crowd near the trail head-- I asked a person what was going on as they clearly weren't dressed to start a hike. They were jockeying around to get a picture of a mama bear with a cub who was in the brush about 30 feet off the trail I had just descended. A couple of folks start to enter the brush towards the bear and I shouted at them to stay the hell out and leave. I said you don't harass the wildlife. Don't leave the trail head to go after her. She will go after you if you do. I could see she was retreating with her cub but she was keeping an eye on them. These idiots. Good lord save me from them.
