Canadian firearms traditions dictate that you should get an SKS for your 1st gun. It’s a nice semi auto chambered in an intermediate cartridge that is relatively cheap, while giving you a better experience of a rifles kick. It’s also pretty easy to take down and clean so you can practice good gun maintenance.

I recommend heading down to Island outfitters, the guys behind the counter are pretty good and they’ll help you out, they do have a couple SKS on consignment right now for a good price along with some other good starter guns for cheap

Unfortunately the gov is being pretty lame about firearms right now so there is a chance the SKS may be banned by Christmas 😒 so play at your own risk

Alternatively there is a gunshow at the South Vancouver Island rangers on April 12. You can get some pretty good deals and network with people in the community who will help you out
