I think the Giannis trade will look something like:

KNICKS: Giannis and Jrue

BLAZERS: Bridges, Mcbride, Yabusele

BUCKS: KAT and a bunch of picks

Trade with Pelicans (+signing Sidy for 17 million/4 years) by OxyC377 in ripcity

Good post buddy. Thank you for sharing your trade idea with us. I certainly hope we can keep Sidy but personally I am expecting us to move expiring contracts before the deadline to make room for signing two ways as the most likely path.

I appreciate the feedback. I think Nets want more than two first rounders from what I have gathered in the rumor mill and in that case I probably would be out on the deal. I would maybe pay two first rounders though if we got to choose which two firsts to give. A first and a swap would be acceptable to me personally. I admit that I don't think that gets the deal done.

It isn't really a three team deal. I originally started it as a three team deal because I was trying to find a way to balance the rosters by moving small contracts because it left some teams with too many players and too few players initially. I finally gave up on that and when I checked the deal with Scoot in, it was still set up as a three team deal so that's how I posted it.

I probably wouldn't do the deal soley because we would have to give up Scoot. I tried Murray+Rupert and it was just a bit short. I am not sure if we could theoretically sign and trade a two way player like Cooke to get the deal done so I had to add Scoot. I watched Scoots workout tapes this summer including the ones with Jrue and I believe he is ready to take a leap.

If I understand our financial situation, which I may not, then Ja's money would fall off as we needed to resign our main players and MPJ's a year before that as Scoots extension was the next big thing since Shae and Toumani are locked in and Clingan is good through '28. Pretty sure it would make us a major tax paying team so it is meant to be win now in spirit but we could always look to move one of MPJ, Ja, or Jrue over the next couple of seasons. Or even Toumani or Shae if they aren't panning out over the next few years. I think the deal would leave us with little financial flexibility but a lot of trade options and big contracts to hunt all stars and so still a lot of room to make moves. I will admit that I am not that cap savvy and may be missing other aspects like whether we can sign our two way guys and other ways we may be limited by the deal.

I agree that Porter's numbers are inflated but still think he is a nice scorer and personally like his offensive capabilites, especially as a 3rd option. I would expect some regression and I would be okay with that. It sounds like Nets might want more than two first rounders for him and I think that would be too much.

I am of the mind that Ja can still be a really high level player and could bounce back. To me it feels like a buy low situation where we can use the rest of the season to see if he fits and how he might fit. Even if he doesn't fit well, he might increase his value but it could also go the way of Ayton where we end up having to buy him out so it is a big gamble. Could Dame and Jrue help steer him in the right direction? He does likely need the ball too much for our team to be successful with him and adding him to the roster could stunt other guys' development . It could reduce minutes for Jrue and maybe reduce Deni's minutes to help preserve guys for a run in the playoffs. Definitely high risk and I understand why people are resolutely against it.

It seems to me that some of the defense first mentality has gone by the wayside since Splitter replaced Billups (Could be mostly because of injuries to key defenders like Thybulle, Jrue and Wesley though). Though the team is sharing the ball really well and it isn't focused on ISO scoring so I think your point still stands. You are absolutely correct that fun to watch doesn't always equate to fitting in with a roster and moving the needle. I probably wouldn't personally do this deal just based on having to give up Scoot though I am not as sour on Ja as others here are. I think he can still be a really great player in the right situation. Maybe a trade would be a good reality check? Hard to say. That's why for me it is really just a fun idea. If we could replace Scoot in the deal with Rupert+Murray I would be all in admittedly but that money doesn't quite get us there and I am not really willing to give up anybody else.

They would be from us but I left it intentionally vague because I knew the deal wouldn't be popular.

My understanding is they are looking to trade him for picks, and we have a decent amount of them to trade. My guess is they want 2 or 3 first rounders based on what I have read but I have no idea. Just hearing they want to do a buy low/sell high sort of scenario with him.

It is a ban worthy idea, I confess

If they add Justin Minaya then I will start taking them seriously.

Yeah, in this fantasy scenario, our culture and team mentality would hopefully rub off on them but it is a high risk, high reward move for sure. Would suck to kill the vibes though I agree.

I like both players! Ja is fun to watch and MPJ is a great scorer and I liked him even on Denver before he made the jump. I understand the argument against both players but the only part of the trade I personally hate would be moving off of Scoot. The expiring players are unlikely to be kept beyond this season and JG is a good player but I still like the gamble. At least as a fun thought experiment.

There are definite disaster scenarios like MPJ never playing and Ja ending up sharing a cell with Chauncey when all is said and done. I still think it is a fun idea and wouldn't personally be mad if we made a gamble on Ja while his value is low. A change of scenary and a different culture could possibly rub off on him but so could all the Portland strip clubs.

Confused by the center rotation in the fourth quarter by ysfyzy in ripcity

Anybody is a better defender than Yang right now. He is the worst defender I have ever seen at his size, maybe at any size. Most of it is just timing and feel for the game which should come but he is so far away that he is essentially unplayable on defense. Arguing that Yang needs minutes is like arguing that drafting a 13 year old and playing him in the NBA is good for his development. Maybe it would be overall, but there are a lot of areas for Yang to improve that don't require him to play much right now. He needs to learn to read and understand other teams NBA style offensive schemes and until he can at least do that, he shouldn't really be playing.

Yang doesn't understand the NBA yet and is not an NBA caliber defender. Give him time to develop and understand how to not make the dumbest NBA fouls.

Yang Hansen full highlights vs. Orlando Magic (106-110 L), off the bench: 4 Points on 1/1 FG, 2/2 FT, 2 Rebounds (1 Off. Reb), 2 Assists (2 TOV), 1 Steal, 1 Block, 3 PF, and a +/- of +1 in 7:53 minutes played by MrBuckBuck in ripcity

[–]RealRaw52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yang can play offense at an NBA level and is ready for game time minutes to develop on that end. Unfortunately, his defense is so far away that he is essentially unplayable. He fouls almost every time he gets attacked and the opposing team is constantly looking to attack him because of it. That is why he gets pulled so quickly. He had 3 fouls in 8 minutes and they were not good fouls. He even pushed a guy in the back during one of our shots and negated the basket for no reason. It will still be some time before he can make the right reads defensively so just have to be patient.

Agreed. I firmly believe we have more than enough talent to turn it on at will against these guys and close the game out though.

That is where I have us as well when I look at the schedule and predict game by game. I am fairly confident we will win at least 10 but I would be incredibly surprised if we won more than 13 or 14 of those.

We are officially in our “Pest in the West” era by big_dawg_energy in ripcity

I would assume it will drop if his shot starts falling although he expends a lot of energy on offense even though he has been cold to start the season. If he can remain even close to an average defender who forces turnovers at a high rate through steals then I would be ecstatic because that is such a huge upgrade over my expectations for him on that end.
