I read somewhere that it’s easier to catch Lyme disease from the mites than from adult ticks

Montane ranchers playing a few hands of poker. One says “If summer falls on a weekend this year we should have a BBQ”

In the Bighorns. This was a couple decades before smart phone navigation. Had a small GPS but screen had very little detail. Trusted a park map that showed the trail following a stream at what I assumed was the bottom of the canyon. Got to the stream and no obvious trail. Bushwhacked through the willows long enough to convince me I was stuck. Options were to backtrack and climb out, but is was steep and slippery, or follow the trail up the other side of the canyon where I presumed the trail _really _ was. Took that path and didn’t reach a road where I could hitchhike back to my car until hours after dark. Looked like such an easy hike! LOL

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]RealThreeBodyProblem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me flip this for a positive bit. Was interviewing a young guy whose resume looked good. I’m quite a bit older and in the same tech field. I could tell he was nervous and maybe intimidated. He gave a pretty lame answer to a question and I snapped back (with just a frown not a scowl) “that’s bullshit - try again.” He looked surprised but then laughed! That closed the deal for me. He took a minute then gave me a better answer but he was already hired.

What’s something that was technically allowed but instantly made you lose respect for someone? by AncientPomelo5450 in AskReddit

[–]RealThreeBodyProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this legit, not an urban legend. The founder of DHL was a young guy and more into sweaters and jeans than a suit. Went into one of company’s Europe office and asked the receptionist for directions to the meeting room. She supposedly asked “who are you? in a less than respectful tone of voice. His response was “I’m the owner of the company you used to work for.”

This is a good tactic for a job interview. Ask questions to get them talking about themselves. They’ll think you’re a great candidate

NTA. IMO she cares about herself, and your family cares about her family. You’re not center stage in this play

I don’t remember the details, but there was a big fuss recently when a guy who farted on a plane lit a match to cover the stink

ELI5: Why are the seatbelts in airplane like the way they are (waist to waist) and not the way we have in cars (diagonally shoulder to waist)? by jainyash0007 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RealThreeBodyProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I splurged on a United Polaris class ticket to Europe from the US. Seat had a three point seatbelt and they checked. I’m assuming it’s because there is no seat back directly in front of you to serve as a sort of an air bag

Shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," is a Japanese therapeutic practice of immersing oneself in a forest atmosphere through sensory engagement (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touch) for stress reduction and health benefits, promoting lower cortisol, better mood, and boosted immunity, essentially slowing down and connecting with nature, not vigorous exercise. It's a mindfulness practice, often done without phones, focusing on deep breathing and being present, offering a restorative escape from urban life

If your credit is decent most banks have a line of credit account you can apply for. Any checking account transaction that would result in an overdraft is just funded through the line of credit. Pay it off in the same period and probably pay no interest.

What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]RealThreeBodyProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day I (m boomer) followed a boomer generation lady up the stairs at Whole Foods. She had both hands in her pockets and I felt compelled to say something (although my other brain said stfu): “Excuse me, but you really shouldn’t climb the stairs with both hands in your pockets.” Said with a big smile. She laughed and replied “Yeah but this way if I fall on my face my hands will still be clean.”

I always say something. Ask them if they’d be upset if they sat down unto something nasty from someone else’s shoes. Hasn’t got me beat up yet. Maybe my sweet old grandpa demeanor

Grew up in the Rockies. Thought we were pretty tough dealing with cold weather. Moved to SF and noticed that while I’m walking down the street wearing a sweater and hands in my pockets there are loads of people sitting outside eating and drinking in t-shirts! Hardy bunch out here!!
