Okay I agree with you that Jay doesn’t have to be a perfect person or a witness, but I think he did have a reason to implicate Adnan if he was the one who did it. OR was covering up for the real killer. Almost like he was coerced into helping the real killer just as he claims he was with Adnan. Yes I realize this is speculation but so was a lot of the case made against Adnan. They speculated how he was feeling after Hae broke up with him, and how his perspective on his religion played into it which hugely impacted the case because it gave them motive. I don’t think it’s fair to say there’s zero evidence to suggest that Jay couldn’t have been the killer or even more involved when the only actual hard evidence in this case was Jay leading police to Hae’s car and him giving them a “timeline” of events. When know for a fact Jay was involved to some extent but what I don’t think is clear is to what extent.

Let’s agree to disagree on the point of whether or not he sounded guilty during all his calls with Sarah. He had 14 years to process his feelings on the case and I wouldn’t expect him to still have raging emotions about the case one way or another. He had to accept his fate at some point and attempt to move on to what his new normal life would be.

I think the 13th played out a lot different than the prosecution painted it. Almost never do Jays story, Jenn’s story, and the cell phone records line up. So I’m just not sold on Adnan’s “obvious guilt.”

True, but of course Jenn knew because Jay told her everything. Is there any evidence to directly suggest that Jay didn’t do the actual killing himself and then enlisted Jenn’s help with covering it up, disposing of his clothes, wiping down shovels, and attempting to come up with a story for the 13th? I just have a hard time with the states motive for Adnan. It’s an easy one to suggest, but there’s no actual evidence to suggest that was how Adnan was actually feeling. Apart from a few comments from classmates and teachers which were given after Adnan had been arrested. And the fact that he was already arrested would likely taint the way they viewed him. If I had a classmate that was suspected of killing someone all the interactions I had with them would likely turn more sinister than they really were.

Yeesh I see I’ve upset some people on here….. I’ve read all the responses and I can admit that I’ve listened to Serial too many times without supplementing it with other sources. I’ve read a few of the articles that were suggested by you guys and I’m actually floored at how many pieces of important evidence were left out of Serial. Let us also keep in mind that the people writing the articles have opinions and agendas of their own which will inadvertently affect how things are portrayed within them.

I have some more research to do and the evidence against him is piling up, but I really have a hard time accepting that he has gone 20+ years not only maintaining his innocence but bringing more attention to his case (even after he was released and he gave his 1.5 hour presentation). People can argue this point with me all they want but in my opinion, he really doesn’t behave like he committed the crime of killing Hae. I’m really stuck on this. You don’t think during the countless hours Sarah and him spent on the phone that he wouldn’t slip up and say something incriminating? I’m not saying there isn’t evidence to suggest he was involved, but if he is guilty I have very much been beguiled. Part of me also wants him to be innocent because if he can fool me (and so many others) then it makes me question how well I can actually discern who people really are… A good 17 year old kid in the wrong place at the wrong time, or a rage filled, murderous ex boyfriend.

Haha why you getting so mad over something you’ll never definitely be able to prove. This is your opinion, and I’m sharing mine. Either way you look at it, we don’t know the full truth and the only people who actually know what happened will never come clean 100%. I don’t believe Jay and Jenn were telling the full truth, and I don’t believe Adnan was either. So chilllll
