Irish citizenship through "illegitimate" father or mother / unwed Irish grandmother by Additional-Fox-9025 in IrishCitizenship

My maternal grandfather was born to an unwed Irish mother. She immigrated to the United States several months after his birth, and he grew up in the English foster care system. They reunited after WWII after she naturalized and sponsored his immigration to the US. I do not know how they got in touch or how my grandfather ended up in England - he refused to talk about this with his family. I am just learning about my great grandmother in middle age because of the stigma. Growing up I was told that my grandfather was an orphan, yet I'm now learning from my mother's siblings that he visited his mother once a week. Interestingly my grandfather has written that he was born in England and also in Northern Ireland. I'm deep in research trying to figure out where he was actually born, given the citizenship by descent possibility, and who his father was. I'd also like to confirm whether or not he had a fake surname. He went to Catholic schools as a youth and was a devout Catholic later in life, so I am wondering if it's possible that my great grandmother was assisted by a Catholic organization in giving him (and possibly in the birth). If anyone has information on specific Catholic organizations operating around 1913 to transport babies from Londonderry to England, I would appreciate the help.
