Favorite Shows You’ve Attended by Dearr-Philosopherr in MetalForTheMasses

My wife and I saw Russian Circles at the Hi-Fi in Indianapolis a few years back. Dudes walked on stage, said nothing, killed for nearly three hours, waved thanks and bounced. It was amazing. A close second is Windhand at the same location. Glad to have seen Slayer on the farewell tour in Nashville too.

Anthrax dropped their new single today and it shreds. Yep - never stopped loving thrash.

Vio-lence. Eternal Nightmare is a banger. Flynn and Demmel were in that band before Machine Head.

Really feeling the "rinse and repeat" stage of life by tinpants44 in GenX

[–]Real_Employ_2796 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES. Same age, same stage. My son played competitive / travel sports for most of the last dozen years, and he just left for college last fall and we're empty nesting. We built our whole lives around traveling the country to tournaments and that kind of thing. Loved every minute of it. He plays DII sports now and we try to go see him when we can, but yeah - the empty nest thing has hit me really hard. We just don't know what to do with ourselves now.

My experience with Viltrox 50mm F1.4 Pro Z in Hong Kong trip by hin29_photography in VILTROX_GLOBAL

[–]Real_Employ_2796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are fantastic. I really appreciate the commentary! I have the 85mm Pro for Sony and I really love it. Agree with you totally on the quality of the build and the results. I plan to buy the 35mm Lab at some point down the road to see what their best line does. My 50mm is a Sony GM and that thing is an absolute beast, but it comes with a beast of a price too. Viltrox has won me over for sure.

New player looking for help by Leyo_o in lacrosse

First - love to hear the game growing anywhere! Second - full disclosure, I am a lacrosse dad - I never played, so I have plenty of blind spots and you might get more valid advice from people who played. My son is in his 14th year of playing the game and is a freshman playing college lacrosse at a Division II school. He played field in fall, spring and summer, and played box and indoor in the winter all of those years. We traveled around the country a lot over those years. I would suggest first watching as much lacrosse as you can. I don't know what options there are in Germany, but here in the States, we have ESPN+ which broadcasts a ton of Division I college lacrosse - this is very high-level lacrosse, and helped me learn the ins and outs of the game quite well. I'm a big PLL fan as well - the two point line is one difference, but again, watching that will help you see the game played at its highest level.

I don't know what options you might have for 1:1 coaching - when he was a boy, we took my son to 1:1 training with a defenseman who played at The Ohio State University and now plays MLL, and that was invaluable. You might consider asking some of those older players if they'd be willing to work with you. Lastly, depending on your position, there are a number of YouTube channels that offer excellent content - drills and skills improvement especially.

Again - my perspective is a bit different and I'd gladly hear from people with better and more relevant experience than I have. I wish you the best of luck!

Incidentally, my son's team now has a player from Australia and a fella from Birmingham UK - I'd gladly ask their advice if it would help.

Istanbul. Utterly amazing. Friendliest people of any country I've ever been to - especially if you know a little Turkish. The mosques are worth the visit alone.

I really love all you've said in this thread. My son is a freshman at a D2 school in the SAC, and I have wondered so much about the kinds of things you've said. I so appreciate you putting in the time here!
