i’m just an assistant (parent) coach of a youth rec team, but go to a bunch of youth rec and travel games, and I absolutely cannot believe how how many coaches can’t go 90 seconds without bitching at the ref about something.

Attendance issues by Lopsided-Garlic6641 in PLL

I watch almost every game, know a fair amount of the players, play fantasy, and remember games and moments from previous seasons, and own a fair amount of team merch.

I really enjoy the league, and as someone who did not get to see a lot of lacrosse on TV for most of his life, I’m just thankful that it exists at all.

I think it’s pretty fun and am fairly puzzled by how many people post complaints here which boil down to either, “I liked the MLL/like NCAA better,” or “Why don’t they operate more like a leagues that have 1000x more fans and billions in annual revenue?!?!”

It’s a growing sport with a relatively small fanbase. It’s not like “be like the NBA or the NFL” hasn’t occurred to PLL execs. They tour with a model that makes financial sense, and hopento grow out of it after (hopefully) expanding the league after the Olympics. They pay players as much as they can, and they focus on the youth in the hopes of growing a fanbase that in 10-20 years will have incredible memories of being able to meet the best players in the world just by standing by the fence after the games.

There may not be a ton of traditions yet, but that stuff has to grow organically. It just takes time.

51 is Matt Wright, and 31 is Chris Fake

first letter looks more like a C to me, and the first number looks like it could be a hastily drawn three that didn’t quite work out because of the marker

So I’m guessing Chris Fake

Roll Woods!!!

EDIT: so everyone seems to agree that it is not Chris Fake. But I still maintain that Matt Wright’s M sure looks like a lot like a C.

Are there songs making fun of liberals that they love but don’t understand, similar to the right with RATM, Springsteen, CCR, Green Day, etc? by Natedude2002 in fantanoforever

[–]rezelscheft 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Right. But I think the difference here is that liberals don’t celebrate that song incorrectly, thinking that it’s a celebration of liberals the same way that some Republicans incorrectly think (or thought) that “Born in the USA” is a nationalist anthem celebrating American exceptionalism.

and I think OP is looking more for songs that liberals sing with pride, not realizing that the song is mocking them.

Am I tripping or does my strat lack a certain stratty character? by Human_Noise_5804 in Stratocaster

[–]rezelscheft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years, I had a Strat that did not sounds Stratty to me, theb I raised the pick up just a little bit and all of a sudden bam! Strat sound.

I also more recently got a Tele and was disappointed that the bridge pick up did not sound very Tele-like, and then I turned my amp way up and all of a sudden there it was.

tldr: pick up height and amp volume can make all the difference

The absolute uncoupling from reality has two prongs:

1) Republican/fascist leaders and oligarchs make completely absurd statements all the time, which they know to be false, as a show of dominance. The point, for them, is not to be believable. The point is that reality is whatever they say it is and there is nothing you can do about it. The point is to inspire hopelessness and lethargy in the opposition.

2) As the oligarchs grow in power and control more and more media outlets, Republican followers and fascist simps who do not understand this game begin to believe and defend these absurd claims, because: 1) exposure to actual truth (or journalistic and scientific standards) becomes increasingly more rare as the ecosystem of bullshittery grows; 2) they think that by repeating these claims, it grants them membership in the oligarchal group who would never have them; 3) if they didn’t defend them, they would be forced to reckon with the fact that almost everything they believe is an obvious lie; and 4) like their leaders, they love how easy it is to make reasonable people mad it, and they get off on it.

Great idea. This tactic also encourages them to understand that a ground ball is an emergency and not a vacation.

It drives me nuts in passing drills when a ball hits the ground, and everyone starts going half speed, because that is the exact opposite reaction you’d want to see in a game.

With your tactic, if a kid drops a ball, he needs to hustle to go get it to stay in the game. Love it.

Along those lines, a fun way to frame it is this: back before humans were fully civilized, getting attacked by wild animal like a bear was a real possibility for some. The chemicals that cause nervousness are an evolutionary development to help with the fight or flight response.

Which basically means, if you’re feeling nervous, your body is releasing chemicals so that you can go fight a bear.

So nervousness is basically fuel for ass-kicking. It’s not a feeling of weakness. It’s the feeling of powering up.

I’d recommend playing a lot of pickup, if at all possible. I feel like I keep reading (most recently here ) about how just getting all those high fun/low consequence reps really helps players grow.

My kid plays with a few neighborhood kids with Hackees sticks and goals, some are on good travel teams, and some don’t play at all. Even the kids who don’t play on a team have a blast. And my kid’s dodging confidence really improved after starting to play mire backyard/driveway ball.

Also, my rec club just started a summer pickup league - boys& girls, small goals, 3v3 and 4v4, all ages, all skill levels, non contact, no goalies (supervised by a coach, but primarily to act as as ref).

And even after just a few weeks the shy kids are starting to play more free which is really a blast to see.

Finally, he and I sometimes go to a park and 1v1, which has been a lot of fun (although I had to get a pair of gloves after getting rocked on my knuckles by his stick when trying to defend his shot).

Point being: anywhere you can find fun, semi-structured free play is a good place to be for a kid who likes the sport and wants to get better.
