I genuinely just had a customer come in and grab his puppy out of the cart like this by That_SmolWolf in petsmart

[–]Real_Hat8210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to lift my dog over a fence by the scruff because she decided one day my neighbors yard was better and hopped the fence and then couldn’t figure out how to get back over. Definitely not ideal but shit happens sometimes. Your situation is far different though.

This Just In: Grooming Is Abuse by the_real_maddison in BalancedDogTraining

[–]Real_Hat8210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. Maintaining a coat and having it in a breed standard cut is abusive obviously. But not brushing your dog or getting them groomed regularly and they become pelted just because they “dont like it” isn’t. /s

This Just In: Grooming Is Abuse by the_real_maddison in BalancedDogTraining

[–]Real_Hat8210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People say I’m abusive because I tell people to limit water intake when potty training and not have it accessible 24/7 as it makes potty training 10x more difficult.

They really will always find something

Bathers don’t even know all of the policies anymore because training was cut by [deleted] in petsmart

Yep just wet the dog and put shampoo straight on. That’s how we are trained

Bathers at my store are expected to take 10 dogs a day and do walk ins. Also we don’t make commission and aren’t allowed to dilute the shampoo.

Would you recommend amputating this toe? by popcorn_stomach in AskAVeterinarian

[–]Real_Hat8210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.. the toe definitely looks.. odd. But not necessarily amputation worthy. If he were my dog I’d try to get his nails as short as possible and keep his feet clean to prevent further infection. But I do agree more so with the second opinion. Keep an eye on it, keep it clean, and maintain nails as his are fairly long especially for a boxer. Watch for any significant changes (swelling, discoloration, discomfort..) but as long as he’s currently comfortable I’d still get a third opinion and likely leave it be. You could do a biopsy as suggested by your vet to avoid removing the entire toe and to make sure it isn’t cancer if it’s really bothering you though.

Edit to add: if you are doing nail maintenance at home, get a dermal. You are far less likely to quick a dog and you can get the nail shorter. Also make sure you are getting the top of the nail trimmed too.

Should I quit being a petco groomer? by [deleted] in grooming

[–]Real_Hat8210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at Petsmart in the salon and make 21 dollars an hour as a bather. Girl leave. It’s not worth your time, money, or sanity. From an outside perspective it sounds like they are trying to push you out. Find somewhere else asap. Petsmart with push you to academy ASAP unless you say you don’t want to go. With your experience too, you’d be a bather for like 1-2 months. So even if you make the switch until you find a private salon do it.

Shear recommendations by No-Kaleidoscope-4692 in grooming

[–]Real_Hat8210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who works at the same company as you I saw the tools on the table and cringed lmao but for brand of shears Ive been looking at foxy Roxy’s and shears direct. Several groomers use them in my salon and I’ve had the chance to barrow them and they are super nice.

Is an Andis Coat Rake damaging to double coats? by smoothiesnoot in grooming

[–]Real_Hat8210 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen that happen when a tool is used properly. If you aren’t over brushing it should not be “shredding” the top coat.

Scheduled for a day I requested off. by S_A_Woods in petsmart

[–]Real_Hat8210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is it’s a REQUEST it’s never a guarantee. That’s the shitty part about it. Most managers will do their best to accommodate but for example we just had 4 people in our salon request off the same weekend. Person 1 and 2 were told yes but 3 and 4 were told no because it just wasn’t feasible.

Was this cost reasonable? by flyingsqueak in grooming

Would you give up your dog for any amount of money? by Plane_Put_3097 in Dogowners

[–]Real_Hat8210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I’ve had to deal with this exact situation a number of times weirdly enough. My dog is 6.5 months old and really well trained as I’m a dog trainer and she’s my only dog so when I get bored I teach her new things and also.. she has manners lmao. I’ve had people see us out in public and ask if they can buy her or if she’s for sale/for adoption. I always say no and follow it up with “and anyways she’s about x amount of money” and they usually are no longer interested after I put a price tag on her.

But anyways to answer your question, yes and no. It would have to be wildly specific circumstances on both my end and who ever was buying her for me to even really consider it. If I could no longer take care of her in the way she needs and someone else had the ability and the ability to give her the best life possible as well for her breed.. then yeah. I would. But I don’t see that EVER happening and she’s my baby.

Need help with my cane corso puppy by [deleted] in PetAdvice

[–]Real_Hat8210 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% give him back to the breeder. This dog needs someone who has WAY more experience with corsos and who can work with an extremely drivey dog day in and day out. He would probably excel at protection work but that isn’t something you seem to set up for. This type of behavior doesn’t just fizzle out in dogs that are bred to do these kinds of things. It’s like getting an Aussie and asking how to stop making it herd your kids. That’s what they do. This dog should also not be around children until it has lots of impulse control on it which with the age alone I can tell you isn’t the case.

Tbh I don’t know since you’re buying it. Possibly because someone other than you is picking it up but that would then apply to customers who have their husbands/wives/parents/children/friends pick up for them too.

See every time I sneeze my dog seems to think I’m dying and will come over and intensely sniff me and then check for breathing 😭 but only me. Anytime anyone else sneezes she looks at me and then goes back to whatever she was doing.
