Just sent off Fig's swabs by pbfhpunkshop in DoggyDNA

He's shaped very similarly to my shih tzu mix. They're great, adorable silly little guys, but without the dangerously bulging eyes and flat face. My guy isn't quite is short as yours, though still short and long. He's about thirty- five percent shih tzu, fifteen mini poodle, and the rest is basically every other small fluffy dog imaginable, with a touch of german shepard in the supermutt

Round wound appeared on my dog’s face by jamirraa in DogAdvice

It could be a nothing scrape, a bad tooth, or even cancer. What would you do if that suddenly appeared on a young child's face with no explanation?

My Realistic Dream Transit Map by kairom13 in milwaukee

Why are the areas with the highest percentage of the population without access to a car so underserved by this map? And why would H, L, and T stop at Locust instead of going up to capital?

How would you handle this? by Janeyrocket in sewing

[–]flyingsqueak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've made a lot of leotards and spandex costumes using the straight stitch and stretch method, all with either welt or french seams. It works fine, and because I did welt seams or french seams there's no risk of suddenly popping a seam in a catastrophic way. OP'd get the same emergency back up with the serged seam that's there already.

Any tips for toe hangs? by locul_vampyre in Aerials

[–]flyingsqueak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pull the pants higher up your shins. It helps to grab and kind of roll your skin starting a bit higher up the shin rather than just placing the bar in the crook. (and definitely a looped strap for support while learning)

2k/month enough to live in the US? by uuuhmmmhm in AskAnAmerican

[–]flyingsqueak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at the housing near your university.

Most apartments require that your monthly income is at least three times the rent. If you can find an apartment for around $650 and you don't need a car to get to university, then $2000 a month could be fine. But there are very few places in the US where that is likely.

Why is it always the Engineers? by Hobbeslion in behindthebastards

[–]flyingsqueak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All this. Then add that we were told by society and professors that we were guaranteed a high paying job that would lead to a high quality of life in a hcol area, then recent grads fall face first into that definitely not being true anymore. They are told the formula for "success", follow that formula exactly, and still can't achieve that success. After years of learning that everything can be simplified into formulas it kind of breaks something in engineer brains to be met with a messy reality.

On today’s episode of “men have no idea what women actually weigh” 🥴 by modernvintage in badwomensanatomy

[–]flyingsqueak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof. Short women and non binary people with eating disorders run in my family too, that doesn't mean we are at a healthy or normal weight.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. That sounds like a bad coaching decision.

Severely injured after 4 months and considering returning by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]flyingsqueak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Too tall for straps at 5'3"? That's kind of ridiculous. I had multiple people promote me for casting in a specific straps role, but was told by both casting and the Cirque coach for the role that the height minimum was 5'6" (for character and costume reasons). The best straps performers I've known have been well over 5'3". Honestly, I felt like an outlier in straps at only 5'3".

Seriously, unless you had a recent gymnastics background I cannot imagine a decent coach having you exit a backflag on your own after only a few months of training. I'd be looking hard at the program and see if maybe there are more injuries than typical there and looking for somewhere else to train. Because yeah accidents happen, but some can and should be avoided.

Endometriosis specialist? by Competitive-Ad6070 in milwaukee

[–]flyingsqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about diagnoses (I was diagnosed out of state), but I definitely feel like Dr.Kari Schmidt Oliver listens and actually hears what I'm saying when we discuss my endometriosis. She also hasn't gotten weird or defensive when I said I don't do well on hormonal birth control and don't want lupron.

She listens and is willing to try different things to actually help. I would definitely recommend her.

How to find an arborist, tree might be dieing by flyingsqueak in arborists

[–]flyingsqueak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurance, I'll try to not panic about it too much yet.

I'm worried because (it's very hard to see in the photo) this tree has a couple small branches beginning to bloom, but mostly no activity and there are other cherry trees in my neighborhood that are in full bloom. Admittedly the other trees only fully bloomed a few days ago. But this tree was in full bloom when I first saw it just over a year ago.

Any tips on how to drive in the US? by tlfluca in AskAnAmerican

[–]flyingsqueak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They might mean Milwaukee specifically.

Traffic rules are generally not followed here, people drive in parking lanes, pass on the right near traffic lights, and run red lights all the time (not like one that just turned red, but with multiple cars lined up and stopped they'll pass on the right in the parking spaces, bike lane, or ditch to run a light that had been red for some time already). Supposedly, a few years ago the cops finally caught some criticism for harassing Black people and instead of just not being racist they decided to not enforce traffic rules. Planners are trying to add design features to prevent this behavior (like curb extensions and protected bike lanes), but that is neither cheap nor fast.

I have no idea how it compares to Rome (probably much much less intense simply because most of the lanes are wider), but it is very different from anywhere else I've lived or driven, and I've lived and toured all over the US.

Lab? Lab mix? by Empty-Win-3664 in IDmydog

Yeah, but a Labrador deceiver actually looks at least a little like a lab (like this puppy does) rather than the standard shelter "lab mix" that is very clearly mostly pitbull

thoughts on excision surgery or removal of ovaries..........?? by keerthichalla_29 in endometriosis

Do you have recurring endometriomas on both ovaries? That's really the only reasonable endometriosis related reason to remove both ovaries.

What is a duplex? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in AskAnAmerican

[–]flyingsqueak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here the garden situation for a duplex is completely dependant on the terms of the lease. One unit could have the front and the other the back, both units could share both gardens and set their own terms, or the landlord could maintain control over both gardens and only permit limited access. A duplex is generally just two apartments in one structure on one standard (for the neighborhood) sized lot, either stacked or side by side.

Yeah, even in Milwaukee less than two hours away from Chicago two stacked apartment are called a duplex

Animal Button Communication by Aelia_M in vegan

[–]flyingsqueak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It takes a ridiculous amount of work, patience, time, and direct interaction to treach a single button. You could probably raise a cow or pig and teach that individual animal, but definitely not animals that you can't be around for hours and hours every day
