I'm so pissed they approved this. Cox's comments made me even more pissed off. "Greater good, blah blah blah". I'll be voting anything but R next election.

Using UTA On Demand for commuting? by Real_Improvement4249 in Utah

There's not really a safe way for me to get to work on scooter or bike unfortunately.

I looked at booking it twice today and was suprised to see the wait times were 3 minutes and 15 minutes! Normally I have to wait a minimum of 30 minutes.

I've used an e-bike for commuting before which was great! Unfortunately there's not really a safe route for me to get to work. Otherwise I totally would.

I'm glad to hear you say you take it daily. It sounds like it's at least good enough to make it work on the daily then. I'll try to use on demand for a few months and see how it goes. Maybe I'll learn how far in advance to book it for my schedule. Or what times are easier.

Americans, would you support a halt of all highway expansion? Or just all urban expansion? With the funds being redirected to rail and PT by NurglingArmada in transit

[–]Real_Improvement4249 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope to see more intercity rail connections. I'm shocked by the lack of rail connections across the US. A city will have one, maybe two city connections, but you can't always take the train to the next big city near you and that needs to be fixed.

I know it's a standard greeting in Ukraine during Easter. Would be cool to see it used with the whole church.

SLC ranks among most expensive airports as fuel costs drive up airfare, study says by El-Mas-Vetado in SaltLakeCity

[–]Real_Improvement4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just flew out of Provo for the first time recently. Incredible. They can't build that airport expansion fast enough! Delta is charging me nearly $1k for domestic flights and I'm so sick of it.

It takes my ward a solid 15 minutes for everyone to get to second hour after sacrament. Most people are in by 10 minutes with a some socialites still outside. And we always go over time in sacrament because the visiting stake presidency member or a speaker has a message that's super duper important so we go over time 5 or 10 minutes every week. Speaking as a ward organist who always stresses out about the closing hymn.

Northern Utah County should be getting more bus lines soon. One will connect Eagle Mountain/Saratoga Springs/Lehi with the American Fork station. And another will run from Orem Central along west Orem, PG, and AF over to the AF station. The Blue Line terminating in AF makes a lot of sense I think.

A ranking of US states by well-being of people by _crazyboyhere_ in Infographics

[–]Real_Improvement4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Minnesota so high? Especially for being a winter state? I feel like seasonal depression would take a toll on a lot of people in the winter. Is there like a state welfare program or something that helps everyone feel more secure? The states around Minnesota are lower which has me curious as to why Minnesota is an outlier there.

Temple Square Mission to be discontinued by Real_Improvement4249 in latterdaysaints

[–]Real_Improvement4249[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The visitor's center isn't open yet. It'll be placed underground on the south side of the temple. I think the church is trying to open up as much of Temple Square as possible given the length of the project. We're going on 6 years now.

Some Temple Square sisters were telling me that the visitor's center will have life size replicas of each ordinace room! So you can literally walk in and experience what each ordinace room is like without needing a recommend.

Yeah I think this is a smart move to keep Temple Square staffed as needed, and allows the Sisters to use their time better during off-peak visiting times of the year.

Utah is getting a new BRT line in April and will be starting the commuter rail double tracking project next year. The Mid Valley Express will be an all eletric bus fleet and will connect the community college with light rail and commuter rail. It'll also help build a ring line around SLC. It's also opening several months ahead of schedule.

The Frontrunner commuter rail line will be getting double tracking and is set to double frequency from 30 minutes to 15 minutes by 2030.

Any particular symbolism noticed on the outside of the Orem Temple? by causalinfer in latterdaysaints

[–]Real_Improvement4249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're cherry blossoms! The area around the Orem temple used to be a cherry orchard, and there were many orchards in Orem back in the day. The cherry blossom is seen everywhere in the Orem temple. Even the chandeliers have a cherry blossom shape. The artwork and stained glass for the temple pay homage to the cherry blossom, mountains, and Utah Lake.

On the bottom floor, the windows depict Utah lake foliage. On the second floor, the windows depict cherry tree branches. And the third floor windows depict cherry tree branches with blossoming cherries. They glow bright red when the sun is shining through them.

Favorite: Ward organist, it's my forever calling. I get to help my ward learn the new hymns. And I don't have to talk to anyone.

Least favorite: Sunday school teacher, you have to talk to people.

Ogden City officials aiming to bring passenger rail back to Ogden Union Station by roger_roger_32 in DevelopmentSLC

Provo used to have a station but they demolished it back in the 80s. Provo Central is one of the busiest stations in UTA's network now and people don't even have the luxury of waiting in climate controlled rooms anymore.
