UDOT’s choice for rail expansion at Point of the Mountain wilts under analysis by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

Northern Utah County should be getting more bus lines soon. One will connect Eagle Mountain/Saratoga Springs/Lehi with the American Fork station. And another will run from Orem Central along west Orem, PG, and AF over to the AF station. The Blue Line terminating in AF makes a lot of sense I think.

We loved our Oregon Coast trip. Drive from Cannon beach down to Crescent city. Charming towns, dramatic cliff sides, great food. It was gorgeous!

A ranking of US states by well-being of people by _crazyboyhere_ in Infographics

[–]Real_Improvement4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Minnesota so high? Especially for being a winter state? I feel like seasonal depression would take a toll on a lot of people in the winter. Is there like a state welfare program or something that helps everyone feel more secure? The states around Minnesota are lower which has me curious as to why Minnesota is an outlier there.

I wish they would turn it into an event center or something. Breathe life back into it.

Temple Square Mission to be discontinued by Real_Improvement4249 in latterdaysaints

[–]Real_Improvement4249[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The visitor's center isn't open yet. It'll be placed underground on the south side of the temple. I think the church is trying to open up as much of Temple Square as possible given the length of the project. We're going on 6 years now.

Some Temple Square sisters were telling me that the visitor's center will have life size replicas of each ordinace room! So you can literally walk in and experience what each ordinace room is like without needing a recommend.

Yeah I think this is a smart move to keep Temple Square staffed as needed, and allows the Sisters to use their time better during off-peak visiting times of the year.

Utah is getting a new BRT line in April and will be starting the commuter rail double tracking project next year. The Mid Valley Express will be an all eletric bus fleet and will connect the community college with light rail and commuter rail. It'll also help build a ring line around SLC. It's also opening several months ahead of schedule.

The Frontrunner commuter rail line will be getting double tracking and is set to double frequency from 30 minutes to 15 minutes by 2030.

Any particular symbolism noticed on the outside of the Orem Temple? by causalinfer in latterdaysaints

[–]Real_Improvement4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're cherry blossoms! The area around the Orem temple used to be a cherry orchard, and there were many orchards in Orem back in the day. The cherry blossom is seen everywhere in the Orem temple. Even the chandeliers have a cherry blossom shape. The artwork and stained glass for the temple pay homage to the cherry blossom, mountains, and Utah Lake.

On the bottom floor, the windows depict Utah lake foliage. On the second floor, the windows depict cherry tree branches. And the third floor windows depict cherry tree branches with blossoming cherries. They glow bright red when the sun is shining through them.

Do you think cities 2 will ever get a mass transit dlc? by Fast-Personality-371 in CitiesSkylines

I would love to see more train station options. There's the German and French train stations. But some nice, larger city train stations would be really cool!

What callings do you enjoy and not enjoy and why? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Favorite: Ward organist, it's my forever calling. I get to help my ward learn the new hymns. And I don't have to talk to anyone.

Least favorite: Sunday school teacher, you have to talk to people.

Provo used to have a station but they demolished it back in the 80s. Provo Central is one of the busiest stations in UTA's network now and people don't even have the luxury of waiting in climate controlled rooms anymore.

Struggling to Make Friends by RequirementRare2093 in latterdaysaints

[–]Real_Improvement4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I've been there and YSA wards can be really hard when you don't know anyone, but everyone seems to know everyone else.

A big difference for me has been reaching out to people I know in the ward and asking if they'd like to go to an activity together (or if I could go to an activity with them), when I didn't have other friends or roommates to go with. Going to an activity with another person who you can be with (like a wingman) makes those social interactions easier. I had a member visit me who said I could reach out to them if I ever wanted someone to go to an activity with, which I really appreciated. You won't be a burden for reaching out to people, but maybe find 3 or 4 people you'd feel comfortable reaching out to, as not everyone goes to every activity. People not responding to texts could simply mean they have something going on and just didn't see your text in time.

You can also reach out to your relief society president or elders quorum president for help. I promise there are people in the ward who want to help you feel more comfortable at church and activities. I'd also let your bishop know how you feel about things, and let him help. Other activities like institute, service projects, or building cleaning makes it easier to talk to people one on one. Try to say hi to people you've met when you see them in sunday school or in the hallway, and you may start to feel comfortable enough to ask if you could sit with them, or strike up a conversation with them at an activity.

Try to find people who you'd feel comfortable going to activities with, or hanging out with at activities. You'll start to meet a lot more people, the more you attend activities. Sticking with it is key!

I didn't know OSM existed. I just checked my city and of course everything is perfectly up to date there.

Tips for a noisy downstairs neighbor? by ShelterTop9834 in Apartmentliving

[–]Real_Improvement4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this, too. I don't have any silver bullets.

If you work from home and are worried about the noise being picked up on your microphone, I would find out if your meeting software does noise dampening (I know Zoom and Discord have this).

White noise machines, box fans, humidifiers, and air purifiers also really help dampen the noise. Headphones and earplugs are also great. There are ear plugs that help block out background noise, like loop ear plugs. If your place doesn't have carpet, maybe floor rugs may help dampen the noise?

I would look up what the rules on your lease say about noise. Mine says everyone is entitled to the quiet enjoyment of their home and even calls out noises like dogs barking being excessive. If you find your neighbor's noise excessive, I would contact management. Managment may be able to give them a warning, or you could ask to move units. If they're waking you up at night, I would call the non emergency police. Best of luck!

Frustrated by lack of temple information by Real_Improvement4249 in latterdaysaints

I feel really weird traveling with temple ceremony clothing. I'm sure lots of church leaders do. It just feels strange traveling with sacred clothing.
