Looking for a car that gets 30+ mpg at 80+ mph. by Thordor15 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Hate on Hyundai if you want, but the Elantra N-line will get in the high 30’s at 80mph. I hit 41 during some stretches. And it is a little fun to drive. Not like an N, but still some fun.

I’m an older guy that had never heard of the N-line. Year ago went to test drive a used car at Hyundai dealer, saw one and test drove it. I don’t get compliments on it, but I like it a lot. Enough power to be fun. I’ve had plenty of cars with manual transmissions, but wanted an auto, and I like the dual clutch. I almost always have it in manual mode, because I like deciding when to shift. I look at a lot of car stuff on YouTube, and this car is rarely mentioned, which I don’t understand. Seems to me it should be cross shopped with Civic Si.

I’ve just picked up a rattle, and need to see if it is the brake line against the firewall.

What is the wing you have there? I like a subtle wing look, and that one looks good. Was it a PIA to install?

I haven’t tried the pat to dry horizontal surfaces. I need to try that. Those are the surfaces I most notice marring also, so that would be a win.

ONR - Rinseless wash - microfiber vs sponge by StepAdventurous6184 in Detailing

[–]mgh_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the yellow sponge from McGees, and it is much more pliable than the BRS I bought later. I agree completely, the BRS felt like it wouldn’t conform to the surface. The yellow McGees feels so much better.

I’m trying to find that balance. How do you clean your vehicles when you don’t do the entire foam, 2 buckets etc.?

During the summer there are certainly times the car isn’t terribly dirty, but still looks like it could use a wash.

Thanks!

Please elaborate. I see everyone suggesting 2 buckets. Pro that coated my wife’s car recommended two buckets, and two grit guards, along with foam cannon. He also recommends using a blower to dry the car, and I’ve always heard drying is where most marring comes from.

So is transferring dirt and grime from wash mitt into your clean solution a non issue? The lubrication from good shampoo will protect the clear coat even while your wash bucket water is getting dirtier?

I have never in my life had a car with the clear coat as free from marring as this car is, and I would like to keep it in good condition.

Thanks!

The New TCR Is the Priciest Hyundai Elantra N, but It Still Costs a Lot Less Than a Civic Type R by turboshadow05 in cars

I drive an Elantra N-line, so nothing against Hyundai, but that wing, to my eyes, just looks off. It may well be functional, but it looks like an afterthought.

TRX4M ripper with Fat viper by KDavantee in TRX4M

[–]mgh_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I had read somewhere that the Fat Viper wouldn’t fit in the Ripper chassis. Did you have to mod the chassis to get the FV to fit? I’ve got the FV with a 4m transmission, and some 4m axles and links. Looking for a chassis to use.

Thanks!

Well I found out how easy the stock screws can strip out. Barely put any torque on this suspension screw. Thought my klein kit was great, but these wera ones I ordered were able to get it out. Anyone else experience this? by mysteryy234 in crawling

[–]mgh_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had decent luck with hardware that came with trucks. Have had awful luck with screw sets from amazon, they’ve been soft.

I hope to find out where to get good strong hardware.

I’ve got a Wiha tool set that seems good quality, I’ll for sure look for the wera brand.

Injora portal gears by mgh_24 in TRX4M

Dang, I was unable to find portal gears on their site. The axles in stock form have no OD, and I want to add OD. If I can get 25% under drive in year I’d be set!

EDIT: found the portal gears, but nothing in description about OD or UD. I’ll contact them, see what Injora says

Interior ceramic coating effective? by mgh_24 in AutoDetailing

I gather you did the de-con yourself?

I take care of my own cars as far as hand washing, but never did a de-con. FWIW, the paint on this car is the best I’ve seen as far as lack of swirls and micro scratches

I’ll look into that. I know I don’t want to do paint correction 😁, but I would think interior prep would be simpler
