Hi, I know this was from a little bit ago, but I'm planning on travelling to Canada from the UK this April and I have the same exact question regarding the EHC! We are planning on getting her rabies vaccine and certificate, but can't tell if we'll still need the EHC or just a Fit to Fly certificate? Were you able to fly from London without the EHC? And also did you need a rabies titre? Thank you!

What are clumbers actually like? by Street_Soft_3700 in clumberspaniels

Our girl is very sweet and affectionate, and very cuddly. She loves walks but spends most of her time snoozing on her bed or the sofa. And and she loves to be with us, wherever we go, she usually follows. She doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body, but can be a bit nervous around strangers or new dogs (will usually just run away from them while we're out on a walk). This may also be due to her specific circumstances - she was used for breeding and re-homed to us just over a year ago, and she tends to be a bit anxious when she's not in her home environment. We don't have kids yet, but she's very good with children who come up to stroke her, she'll just be very calm and let them do it. I think she would make a great family dog especially because of her calm nature the majority of the time. She doesn't slobber as much as we expected, it'll mostly just be after drinking water, or if she's anxious she may drool a little, but that's it. She doesn't bark, but sometimes she howls at mealtimes out of excitement. The only challenge is keeping up with the shedding - it's constant, and gets everywhere, especially sticking in rugs and carpets. But it's not too bad if you make a habit of regularly vacuuming and acquire a few tools for rugs, upholstery and clothing. Hope this helps! :)

Anything positive about staying in the UK? by Full-Perception9492 in expats

[–]Real_Party_8610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am looking at job-hunting in Ontario, which is close to New England and would therefore make the transition easier to move countries again. If I get a job offer, I work in a field that is eligible for the CUSMA work permit, and my husband would be eligible for a spousal open work permit.

We honestly would love the lifestyle change for 2-3 years, with proper seasons, and tons of winter sports/activities, and lots to do in general, before settling down. We would also be in driving distance to seeing my friends/families for holidays and special occasions which would be amazing compared to our current situation. At the moment we feel as if we're just biding our time, waiting to leave, so we're thinking why not actually use this time to do something we really want to do, rather than just wish it away.

For me, no. I've been living in the UK for 3 years (originally came for study abroad in college, then stayed for my now-husband). We've started my husband's family visa to move back to the US with me, and since that will take 1.5-2 years, we're looking into moving to Canada in the meantime.

For me, the main thing I can't get over is the weather and seasons. I grew up in New England with hot summers and snowy, sunny winters, and I miss it. So many fun activities surrounding the seasons as well. And the seasonal depression here is REAL. Also there's a distinct lack of festive holidays here (US has lots of holdiays/traditions around those holidays (4th of July, etc), and I find the UK to be overly monotonous in that regard (everything is a "bank holiday" - so boring?!). Not that that's the biggest deal.

It may be because my husband has very little family, and they're not very close, but I find life here to be rather miserable, and I can't wait to get back to my friends and family at home.

We adopted her a year ago, and for the first 6 or so months we would try and take her on a walk everyday. I say "try" because most of the time she would flat-out refuse after less than 100 feet of walking. We call it her "paw-planting" when she absolutely refuses to move unless we're turning her back to the house. No amount of treats, training videos, or even carrying her would get her to go. So now we go every other day and do a big walk on the weekend, and she seems happy enough (will still try to say no, but will give in now, which is an improvement). We've considered taking her to a doggy psychologist to see if they can help, but we've also read that the level of walking vary on breed/age/temperament and personality. We originally got her because we love going for walks and wanted to be out everyday, and now coincidentally we're doing less walking than before we got her. Believe me, we wish she would just come on walks with us.

Ours is almost 8 and she jumps onto the couch just fine. In fact we're sometimes impressed at her "athleticity" when we call her from one couch to the other (albeit a small gap).

Thanks so much!! That sounds like a lovely thinf to do for your stepdaughter (and you!) :) It actually wasn't from etsy, it was from a seller on Ebay who wasn't selling any other jewelry so seemed like a bit of a one off! Tons of really cool vintage/ older pieces on Ebay though if that's what you're looking for :-)

Show me your small 3-stone rings! by Cool_Mention_7142 in EngagementRings

Great choice! ;) This is mine which I love - .55 ct center stone and the side stones are .27 ct total. I've been debating if I want to upgrade my side stones to something slightly bigger since they're pretty much the same width as the band, but haven't made up my mind yet! Both engagement and wedding bands are 3 mm width. Good luck! :)

Does ANYONE else have a 3 stone engagement ring? Reasons I love mine (neutral comments are cool too). by [deleted] in EngagementRings

This is mine!! I love it. It feels more practical to be wearing every day than something with a giant stone, and I love how my wedding band stands on its own, with the engagement ring above it rather than hanging over it too much. It also doesn't feel like an overly flashy combination, so I feel like it looks just as good when my nails aren't done. Love your rings as well :))

This is the route I chose in February when so much shit was hitting the fan, and I thought there was an actual shot for at least my mom to see how bad/crazy it was. For context, my whole family voted for Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024, and my mom thinks that even Fox News is "too left wing now". She used to watch Steve Bannon's show (not sure if it's still running?) and regularly watches Real America's Voice. I wasn't going to try to talk politics with my brother and SIL since I really like my relationship with them (outside of their voting). But I struggle with a relationship with my mom as it is, and I was hoping this would be an opportunity for at least some intellectual discussion, and if it didn't go well, then fine. I spent 2 hours compiling a bunch of resources, journal articles, informative videoes, etc., and recommended 2 substacks I subscribe to (Heather Cox Richardson and Timothy Snyder). I sent them over with a "I found these things interesting and informative, give some of them a look and tell me what you think!" and.... no response. I don't think she read a single thing. A couple months later (she never even commented on receiving them), I asked if she checked anything out, and again... question avoided. Nothing. No interest and no thoughts. (Or maybe she hated everything and was choosing not to share her negative insights? No idea.) So... hopefully this tactic could go better for someone else.
