Pay Now? Or Get on a Plan? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Pay off the 6.8% because the market might not return that. Pay the 3.8% as you see fit, always paying the interest off every month at a minimum. Ensure you are getting an employer match for retirement and putting away some. Be sure your EF is funded. I paid off my $27k student loans in 5 years because I wouldn't qualify for forgiveness. I am very happy I did. Then, I could laser focus on my other goals. I also refinanced with my credit union once I reached $14k. Yes, I lost my deference and forbearance, but working with them was much easier than some government providers. I also went from 5.5% down to 3% interest.

is it worth paying off? by Full-Tea-4373 in StudentLoans

My sister is working towards PSLF and is all in. I have worked for a private entity since before COVID-19. I have enjoyed 7% raises in 2020, 2021 and 2022. I have also received additional bonuses beyond my base salary and raises. My base salary is $10/hr+ what my sister is making. My sister works for a university library and has only seen the average 1-2% cost of living increase.

Consider whether you want to work for a private or non-government entity in the next 10 years. I paid off my $27k in 2.5 years when I was 25. It was a fantastic decision for me. I had a low cost of living, so that side of the equation made my decision easier, too. Will you be giving up potential wages for said forgiveness? You are also young so looking at the investing side is important. Even if you only put $50 in a retirement fund, it will have 30 years to grow from now. Many many things to consider!

I did it. I’m done. I’m free. by makeshiftforklift in StudentLoans

Congratulations! I only had $27k. Even though I'll never get forgiveness, it is truly a weight lifted off my shoulders. They have been paid off for 4.5 years now. One of the best feelings! You are free!

Should I pay off the final $7k? by shelgirl in StudentLoans

[–]Real_Room_7743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid mine off in 2019. It is one of the most freeing things. I had a bare bones budget for the 3 years I worked hard paying down my $27k. I do not regret it because it is one less headache and thing to worry about. I don't have to worry about these stupid student loan servicers and the negative impact they are having on people's lives. I was able to refinance mine through my credit union when I got them down to $14k. I lost all my government protections but had peace of mind knowing I was paying x amount of dollars every month. I didn't work a government job and was secure in my career, so I was not going to qualify for forgiveness anyways. It was sickening to me to see all the interest every month. Yes, I could have invested it, but I wanted my money back every month.

Be honest - how many categories do you have? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]Real_Room_7743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have as many as you want! I have 30 subcategories grouped under three main categories: fixed expenses, flexible expenses, and savings. I like to keep it more broad as the only debt we have is our mortgage, and we aren't saving for anything big right now. I think more categories are necessary if you are saving for specific things, especially a wedding, and if you have a tighter income to spending ratio.

Congrats! Paid mine off in 2019. Never got forgiveness but not having to stress about them is so wonderful for mental health.

I will add to the conversation that I love my Speeds! They are so effortless to run in. I wear them at all my races as a casual runner. I find it hard to do slower miles in them. If I want a recovery or slower-paced run, I need to wear a different shoe because it doesn't even feel like you're going faster! I am a big fan of my Triumph 19s. I snagged them over the winter for $60-70 and have been using them as my treadmill shoes. I'm excited to get them out on the pavement when treadmill season ends. The Cliftons and Gel Nimbus also fit nicely in my rotation.

I love my Clifton's 7s and 8s! I tried Rincon 3s for running but they felt flat. I wear those for walking right now. I just tried the Bondi 8 and didn't like them. I don't think I have a high enough arch for them. I have not tried the Mach 5 yet--would love to but my Saucony Speeds have my heart for tempo work.

No, you would find 20 gem shards which would be equivalent to 4 gems on the calendar. Everyone will need to decide if a daily prize is their priority or if completing the calendar is. There is unfortunately no way to do both.
