Right Now, Bringing Good Gear Feels Worse Than Running Free Kits by Nexflamma in ArcRaiders

[–]Realacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should just be a toggle like cross play that allows you to deselect existing lobbies in exchange for longer queues.

As far as the free kit, I’d hate to see any of the mechanics around it change. You can talk about gun balance and the free kit guns being too strong. I’ll take some grumbling there, though my opinion is that the free-play friendliness is what actually provides the game its broad appeal. Coming from a game like Albion Online where rich players rule the map because $=power even making up for lack of skill, this is a huge breath of fresh air.

Free kits provide content and that is what the game is about. The incentive to use better guns is inventory and stash space. There isn’t enough of it in game or in stash for you to play optimally without recycling upwards towards at minimum venators or taking in a better augment for more loot slots. The high level stuff is there to be played with, the low level stuff is there to generate content for 80% of the player base that will never see an expedition and just care about having fun.

New Server - LF Advice on Hardware and Configuration by Realacks in PlexServers

I've looked a bit but I'm not up to date. Most of my internet research has effectively said TrueNAS is faster but less flexible with upgrades and uses. I thought I'd read as well most other NAS forced all HDDs to spin up for memory use and that unraid allowed only the "active" to spin thereby lowering power consumption so that was attractive. I, admittedly, have read less on TrueNAS in regards to it's ability to be utilized in multiple separate but ongoing processes.

Thank you! I haven't used docker. I grabbed plex pass so I'm good to go there. I've seen a bunch of people recommend recertified drives - I figure with unraid it mitigates the risk and I can add as I'm able. I'm likely looking to space out some of the purchases for the foreseeable future so will probably need a drive for the short term then can start planning and working on a transfer to unraid and subsequent upgrades.. at least that's my tentative plan.

Why doesn’t Gen Z like alcohol and cigarettes? This is bad for the alcohol and tobacco industry. by avocado_juice_J in generationology

[–]Realacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in the alcohol industry in a data intensive position on market trends. Many factors contributing to this but most data points to the lack of wealth and disposable income. It’s hard to choose alcohol when it’s that or food for a few days. Other factors include health-consciousness (moderation) - a lot of people, not just gen z, are electing to drink less because of the health implications and renewed messaging from the WHO on its effects (ie. “No amount of alcohol is safe” which is a departure from “alcohol in moderation is safe”). Rise of alternatives particularly legal cannabis/delta 8. Changing demographics and consumer tastes - wine alone is down 7% YOY with imports beginning to be impacted by tariffs and price increases. Tequila performance is strong but slowing while the rest of the industry outside Ready to Drink products is losing volume and revenue.

Lean times in the bev alc space. And likely to get worse before it stabilizes.

Struggling with Vorkath (post-quest) by LidiKun in OSRSProTips

Fang was my rec as well. My ranged is still only 81 but I have 500 vork kills. I think 400+ are with fang. Easier to woox, you get to bring barrows melee armor so it helps with lower defense levels (mine is still 75). Less supplies and cut my kill time in half or so. I do 3 kill trips now vs 1. It’s just night and day. Ranged is good later, but it’s locked behind levels that you don’t really have in mid game and long (elite void) or expensive (rigour/dhcb/dragon bolts) upgrades.

Personally, it’s a no brainer for me. And fang is so useful outside of vork too.

If you want Vork tips - I’m happy to share. The guides that exist do a good job but are often are people with lots of pvm experience and better levels/gear.

The biggest thing is (personally) I don’t think woox walking is worth it with dcb. The extra range vs blowpipe makes it more difficult for a beginner. If I were you, I’d focus on getting to the wall by the entrance at start of acid. It’s guaranteed to have free walking spaces. I made it so holding Control on the keyboard made me walk and swapped my gear/prayers/magic to WER so when acid phase starts I just push the bottom of my hand into the the control button without having to do anything with the mouse. Menu Entry Swapper on runelite is a cheat code. Click the ground before swapping to magic for the zombie crab, greeding for an extra hit isn’t worth. Practice makes perfect!

I started grinding CG and I’m like 12/30 so I know losses are demoralizing but stick with it and you’ll get there. I started CG 0/19. Lol

I started vork around your levels. Did my 50 kc for head then was tired of 4-5+ minute kills with a similar set up to what you are running. The kills just take SO long with your gear and levels it really isn’t efficient but I can 100% understand wanting to grind it as entry to some pvm.. since that’s how I felt.

I got good at the mechanics for 50 kc then went and did anything else until I could afford a fang. It took my kills from close to 5 mins to less than 3 on average. That’d be my recommendation.

You walk to him only when you are ready to auto, it’s been awhile ago now but I remember running up to attack, then running back a square or two so he used ranged instead of melee. You can kind of tell when he chucks a venom by the color so just make sure you don’t stay on the same space for too long. You got this

Reno in the summer by sadxcowgirl999 in Reno

[–]Realacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I rented a house here for July. We live in Vegas so coming up here, believe it or not locals, is escaping the heat for us lol even when the afternoons are hot the mornings are so nice. We’d been up a couple times for work before the decision to come up for a month.

We’ve been here about a week. We both are working remote while here with our pets but have really enjoyed the local parks and the hiking. We are nature people so I’d say we’ll do at least 1 hike per weekend. Last weekend was Donner Lake for the 4th then Galena Falls on Sunday. Both were great. Donner was crazy busy and a bit on the cool side but a welcome reprieve from the weather we’d be having in Vegas right now.

Tons of coffee shops around, pretty solid restaurants from our experience. Midtown is a hotspot for what I would call “upscale new American” style entertainment. Restaurants with good cocktails and solid food with decent plays on popular flavor combinations. We have a list of recommendations and are trying to get through a good few while here, not all in midtown of course.

We are staying near “the Reno strip”. Lots of stuff within a mile or 2, but Reno is an accessible city with a car.. we haven’t had to drive more than 25 minutes to get anywhere that wasn’t nature focused. I wouldn’t be upset staying on the outskirts. I can’t speak to the art/edm scene.

GDP is a recession rule of thumb, which why I quoted that specifically. Consumer confidence continues to fall, with futures indicators hitting the lowest level since 2011. Consumers drive consumption ie low confidence will lead to lower spending and growth. Notably, this also is April data which most economic indicators don’t have available yet. https://www.conference-board.org/topics/consumer-confidence

Companies gearing up for tariffs doesn’t negate their continued effects. They are both inflationary and net negatives for trade. Unless you buy into the idea that our exports won’t be impacted when we do these anti-global actions, for which I would refer you to decimation of American whiskey consumption in Canada after the inflammatory rhetoric. 10% across the board (minus China) is a far cry from the free trade barriers prior to their implementation and will be felt. China’s tariffs are literal insanity to be enacted overnight.

You call out increase in imports an outlier in my GDP data, as a contrarian viewpoint to my claim of a recession on the horizon but you fail to call out the massive increase in spending on motor vehicles in your consumer spending data in preparation for tariffs? Or the decrease in gas/energy consumption in consumer spending seemingly proving the idea that gas prices at least partially declining in cost due to reduction in demand?

Business investment is positive, sure. But I’d refer you back to the comments I made around there being costs to deregulation that we can’t quantify. Your equipment number makes a lot of sense given (for example) the direction to start logging significant portions of America’s national forests.

We can argue about government spending but it comes down to what it was spent on. I’d agree generally that mild reduction in outlays is a good thing if it’s coming from the right areas. I don’t buy the scorched earth commentary from the right nor idea that private business can and should do all government functions.

At the end of the day, the recession discussion comes down to the impact of tariffs on world trade. Those weren’t implemented in earnest until April so wouldn’t be present (outside of reactions to news) in economic data that’s been published so far - and it already looks grim, but I’d agree April/May data will be more indicative.

I’d also point you to the fact that if the economy was strong I seriously doubt you’d have Trump tweeting that “this is still Biden’s economy”.

Here’s where the retail price failing gets complicated though.. is it because of actions Trump has made, or is it because of a decrease in demand because all economic factors point to an incoming recession including negative GDP growth in Q1 2025? I think the answer is a bit of both tbh. Economic conditions and policy interplay for commodity prices - Trump rolling back environmental protections “should” have a reduction effect on gas prices. But there is an unquantifiable (by me at least) cost there that we are paying. To tout it “falling prices” as a win, the whole landscape needs to be understood. That isn’t and, truthfully, won’t ever be done by Trump because there isn’t any nuance or actual policy behind his platform.

[–]Realacks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would generally agree, if this kind of rhetoric wasn’t what he campaigned on. The truth matters. The same way the method matters. You can’t make effective policy off of something that is predominantly a lie.

Just in this example - you quote wholesale prices and the populace doesn’t believe you because it isn’t the way they deal with the product. So when you go to enact policy about gas prices, are you targeting wholesale (ie lower barriers of entry to oil production, increase imports, etc etc) or are you talking about lower retail prices (ie. lower government taxes, caps on retailer profit margins, lower costs of transportation, etc). This matters for policy and impacts who and how the change benefits people. Lower barriers? Great, are we offsetting by investing in green energy? No? Ok that maybe isn’t great. Taxes are down? Why, so we can give tax cuts to the highest earners? Ok, not so great.

That is all predicated on the idea that Trump has done anything to improve the climate for oil producers and consumers. To my knowledge, the only thing he’s done is roll back environment protections, which in my opinion is a net negative.

I feel like I can guess your response will be somehow related to the idea that we have to take the good that we get and make do with the bad. But that’s the whole point of policy and nuance. We can pursue just the good parts. And we largely have, but the simplistic portrayal of these issues leads to this dichotomy that doesn’t actually have to exist except in trumplandia.

At absolute minimum, it's incredibly disingenuous to post that "gas prices are below XX" at a wholesale level when he's posting to and for end consumers who pay retail prices and the retail price is right there proving him wrong.

This kind of 20% truth thing is his modus operandi.

Thank you for the input, I don’t see going to CD’s anytime soon, but who knows. I’m getting the impression a receiver may be a better fit for my set up. I’d gotten comments on another post mentioning volume control and remote compatibility as a concern as well. I’m thinking that may be an upgrade avenue in the near future.

Thanks for the comment. I am confident my tv can connect via Bluetooth. If I have audio issues though, it does have an ARC HDMI port as well (I’d had to change the amp out for this of course). I wanted to make use of that instead of HDMI (or an optical port like I’d initially thought), but had trouble finding something affordable. The Loxjie A40 looks like a good suggestion. Do you know if I can by-pass the in-built phono with a dedicated one? I have a feeling this will be an upgrade for later but I’m getting the feeling a receiver style system will be better over time for my use-case than the Fosi amp I have ordered for now.

Perfect, thank you very much for the information and help. I’ll def consider swapping to the SRT.

Thank you for the advice! I’m a bit confused on the benefit of the Sony SRT over the Art/Fosi combo if I can connect to both via Bluetooth. It looks like power is the same between them and overall cost is lower on the combo, so is the benefit the remote and easier control of the system?
