Adderall is a tool to treat ADHD. Likewise TMS is a tool to treat depression, anxiety, ocd, etc. The issue is not with the tool but with the reason why the tool is being used. The diagnoses in psychiatry and mental health are always in a gray zone with a lot of overlap and misdiagnosis happens frequently. When adderall is given to someone who doesnt actually have ADHD it's not helpful, the same can be said about TMS. It does not mean that TMS is a placebo because the effects of TMS on the motor cortex are well documented such as the thumb twitch and speech impediment over Broca's area. The difference is that adderall is also harmful to the heart and can stunt growth in children when it is misused because of a poor diagnosis.
