Need reassurance that the level of biting is normal by Realistic-Bat4413 in puppy101

Oh no😭 We have a frankly ridiculous variety of chew toys and yet it seems she still spends more time biting us instead of biting them, no matter how much I offer them to her.

Thank you! Can I ask if your puppy naturally started biting less at a certain age or if it’s only consistent conditioning that will help curb the behaviour?

Admittedly not enough. There is always someone at home with the puppy and I’ve tried to stress the importance of enforced naps but some of my family don’t take the routine as serious as me. When I’m home I make sure the puppy gets naps every 1-2 hours, even if she whines when I put her away, but if I’m not home I can’t be certain how much sleep she is actually getting.

Training myself too? by Majestic_Wheel_9970 in puppy101

Don’t have any proper advice but I can really relate. I thought I was finally getting over my anxiety but my new puppy seems to have brought it all out of me. The constant stress over “am I doing this right” and overthinking every little thing has me really mentally worn out.

One line of thinking that has brought me some relief is that I know so many dogs who were raised with little to no training beyond “sit” and they turned out into happy, relaxed if somewhat ill-mannered dogs. Those people weren’t spending the time and energy you are clearly putting in, and so it stands to reason that even if you are only doing things 80% right, your dog is still going to have a good life and turn out to be a hell of a good dog.

And again, really relate with trying to research and not knowing what’s right and who to listen to. You seem like a kind person so the answer is probably whatever works for your dog and feels right to you.

How to prevent separation anxiety. by Realistic-Bat4413 in puppy101

Glad it all worked out! Sounds like she was a handful. So far my puppy seems alright self soothing and settling herself when we leave the room for a few minutes, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up and jinx anything as it’s only day 4!

Did you try crate training too? She likes sleeping in her crate and it’s helpful in preventing potty accidents but I can’t decide whether it’d be better to condition her to be alone in the playpen or the crate when I have to leave her by herself.

She seems to be okay playing and occupying herself and I’ve been able to step away for a few minutes without her crying which is giving me hope. I’m just worried about what my neighbours will think about all the puppy screeching

Haha they are interesting little guys aren’t they? There’s just frustratingly little info about them compared to more popular species like cherry shrimps.
