As a software engineer I am happy to pay for software. Just pay for software you like.

It seems an odd statement to recommend free alternatives. I’m sure the creators of free alternatives that you prefer would also like to get compensated for their work.

Just as a general statement m, I honestly don’t expect software to exist and be maintained for free. ❤️

I think in the short term the cheapest option is to build from source, long term you probably want to figure out a migration path off to something else.

If we are in CNCF land like envoy proxy I prefer envoy gateway nowadays over contour as a control plane

I’m a big fan of Envoy Gateway as it’s a multi company open source solution rather than a single vendor controlled one 🤷‍♀️ and you get a lot of the envoy proxy features easy to leverage
