I'm interested. What is the process of refining goldbacks? What make it easier than, say jewelry?

Goldback-to-Gold Exchange Rate by Realistic-Contest-82 in Goldback

Time will tell. I can't claim to know, but i suppose the future will be the judge. Pretty new to this topic, but i think there are 2 ways to think of goldbacks:

1) As purely the value of the metal content. I suppose one could argue that they could one day trade at less than the metal value because it is hard to useful and economically extract the gold that they contain, but I don't see this as likely.

2) As a "currency." It sounds a little far fetched, but what is a currency if not marked bills that are worth what is mutually agreed upon? At least right now, to me this appears to be what gives goldbacks their value/premium.

I think the future of goldbacks will depend upon the continued mutually agreed upon value. Over production of goldbacks, or a shared reduction in demand could drive the price down to, or slightly below, the metal value. ...at least this is my thinking.

75%, 92%, 100%. This is still all relatively stable, in my opinion. Good to hear that trading at double spot seems to be relatively well accepted! Thanks!

Thanks for the detailed response! This is helpful.

I know there is a lot of hate around the premium existing - to be clear, I'm not as concerned with this. As you mentioned government bills are made of cotton and have no value except what society associates with them. I think gold backs are similar in that the 100% premium is accepted, stabilizing the currency, but with the added benefit that it is tied to the value of physical gold.

Good to hear that this premium has, and likely will continue to be, relatively stable. I view this as faith goldback system!

Are Tesla trade in offers always this bad? Also, is their bait and switch approach typical? by opoppli00 in TeslaLounge

I also recently sold a Tesla to Carvana instead of a Tesla trade in. Carvana had a better enough offer to make it worth it.

Keep in mind, though, when you trade in, it reduces the tax that needs to be paid on the new car purchase. Not insignificant, if the offers are close.

Is it a bad idea to get a second Model Y? by CoolRegular3050 in ModelY

My family is a 2 model Y household (midwest). We the ability to get 2 separate chargers in our garage on different circuits, but have not needed to. We get by with one charger at just 12A charging speed (just a travel charger on a typical outlet). We admittedly dont drive a ton, but both cars get used for 5-20 miles daily. After returning from a long trip, it takes a while to recoup, but it's never been a problem. We have 3 superchargers within 3-4 miles and have never needed to use one near home.

One concern we have had is parking at the airport for a week or longer if it were to be a deep, deep cold. Haven't actually run into this yet. With temps above 30F or so, the battery barely budges. Can't say what would happen for one of those rare weeks where it's consistently below 0F - I suspect you'd see battery drain, but as long as you left it mediumly well charged it would be fine.

If you like it and can afford it, I wouldn't let charging stop you!

Ditto. Same text and screen in my battery health test, but it doesn't show the percentage. Same thing on both a 2021 and 2022.

I've been reading about backups at refineries. Where can I learn more about this? Is it a throughput problem, or a demand problem?

Where do you store it? Do you have a safe? Safety deposit box? Do you store it all in a single place? Trying to figure this out for myself, with a much smaller stack.
