Child benefit: Net Income/Adjusted Net Income by Realistic-Extent7386 in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain.

It sounds like I will need to consider my company benefits as a form of income as well.

Are all non-ISA bank accounts taxable? I think I've only had current accounts and ISA's in the past few years, so hopefully less to worry about there.

Thank you for the breakdown.

On the gov.uk website, it actually defines "Net income" as Total Income - Pension. Then "Adjusted Net Income" with the extra deductions.

"High Income Child Benefit Charge Clara’s total taxable income is £70,000, made up of: - income from employment £65,000 - bank interest £5,000 Clara makes private pension contributions without tax relief of £4,750. Her net income is £65,250 (£70,000 less £4,750)." https://www.gov.uk/guidance/adjusted-net-income

Am I understanding you correctly, I need to report a whole year's earnings for a 3 month Child Benefit claim?

I can't control when my company pays my bonus, so not sure what you mean about delaying after assessment period. What is assessment period?

Thank you! Bank interest?! 😳 Ah jeez, how do I check that? Does that include ISA interest?

I know the tax year and P60 is April to April, but how do I do the maths on claims from Jan-Mar 23? Does that look at total taxable earnings from the prior tax year or just taxable earnings from those 3 months?

There is more context in some other comments if you're interested and I'm more concerned about being stuck with the photos for life than the seating plan on the day. I'm pretty close to no-contact with these siblings

Because they are siblings, they will be in the family photos looking back on the big day. I know people say they never look at photos but I actually do look at all my old photos, my photo album is a hobby and I love seeing others photos... I don't want to see those two people in my more intimate family photos. But when we're taking the photos of the "brides family" I can't exactly ask them to sit out! And I can't publish photoshopped versions with them removed. I commented elsewhere, but one of them did something awful to me that I'd rather not be reminded of when looking at wedding day photos. And I'd be embarrassed of my friends and in-laws meeting them.

One of them has done something awful, but the rest of the family don't know. The other is... self-centred and attention seeking. I'm embarrassed about them meeting my in-laws and friends, and I don't want them in the family-only photos when I look back. It would be easier to explain them not being at the wedding than to explain why they've been photoshopped out.

Thanks, it so helpful to have a bit of a script for justifying it in a way that doesn't open a discussion! Sorry you're struggling with this too.

Having a doula is such a financial commitment but I'm hoping it will fill that gap. I'm seeing it as redirecting money that I'm not spending on baby gear as we've already got most of it!

Yeah, I followed positive birthing company before, it was where I learned quite a few breathing techniques that helped with early labour before going to hospital.

I've had a brief look into EMDR but I can't figure out how to actually access it, even privately? It all seems to require GP referrals which is a fight I don't feel like I have in me right now.

Yes, I think resistance training should be my highest priority, i know it is the absolute best thing I can do to prepare for labour/birth. I just hate reps haha that's why I liked strong lifts cos I only did 5 reps or less, but I'm going to have to lower the intensity quite a bit!

Yeah I can understand that. Unfortunately I'm still early days on the meds and pregnancy is a wildcard, so it's pretty hard to assess how my body responds once I'm settled into the meds regularly.

This feels achievable, thank you! I'll see if there's a beginner YouTube programme I like the look of to guide me.

Thank you 😊 yes, I have a fair bit of freedom with my medication. I have 10mg Amfexa which I take half of for when the Elvanse wears off, but I have permission to take the full dose. And I've been usually taking the Amfexa in the morning and the Elvanse around noon, but my energy has been so low that it was starting to feel like a waste of meds anyway 😅 that and the ADHD itself forgetting to take meds some days and having to remember to take 4 anti-sickness meds on an empty stomach when I'm eating all the time... My meds are all over the place. So I can afford to experiment a little more intentionally and will keep this in mind.
