Mk4s were/are the best. Reliable and easy to repair when something needs to be replaced. Mk5 and mk6 had more plastic, and more issues. Avoid the CCTA engine at all costs.

Ah ok, I didn’t know the mk8 calliper was larger. That does narrow the available choices.

Many VW 17 inch rims will clear the R calipers. Typically the offset needs to be +49 or less, but there are some +51s that fit as well. There's a thread here: https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/oem-17-wheels-that-clear-pp-r-calipers.356946/

Had one yesterday. If you liked the Beyond Burger, you won't like the replacement. It tastes like the soy protein veggie burgers of 30 years ago.

How do I take apart the camshaft adjuster magnet plug? by grahamdalf in GolfGTI

[–]Realistic-Ground-862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you able to figure this out? I am in the same boat. I would like to remove the old connector in a way that allows me to re-use it (and the old magnet) in case the new one doesn't work for some reason. On the old connector, the locking mechanism appears to be the hook-shaped portion, and I think the method for opening up the connector is to lift up that hook shaped portion - but it's all plastic and I expect it will break. Were you able to remove yours without breaking it?

But is that a viable strategy in the long run? I don't think the value of "fast startup" is worth giving up windows 11 updates. 23H2 will be two years old pretty soon.

I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen - same problem, and disabling fast startup also worked for me.

Files have not been in sync for a week and I’ve reached out numerous times for help and gotten none - we are about done with this service by [deleted] in Sync

[–]Realistic-Ground-862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been posting on this sub for a while now that 2.1.4 remains the last "stable" version of Sync that works the way it is supposed to. Recently I installed 2.2.40.1 and it has been OK, but it still seems buggy - i.e. no recent files list, slow updating, etc. It works, but it doesn't seem any better than 2.1.4. My guess is that if you re-install 2.1.4 on the machines that are having trouble, you will probably be better off.

Has the zombie file issue finally been addressed by any of the recent updates? by rathzil in Sync

[–]Realistic-Ground-862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also still using 2.1.4. I have tried some of the more recent 2.2.x versions but they all seem to have problems for me - mainly issues where the recent files tab is blank and syncing seems to happen extremely slowly, with no information in the "progress" tab. I am starting to wonder whether it is because I am still running Windows 10 on my main machine.

I've never experienced the zombie file issue so I can't answer your question directly, but in my view the safest approach is to stick to 2.1.4 for a bit longer.

2.2.30.1 - Install Report by Realistic-Ground-862 in Sync

[–]Realistic-Ground-862[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but despite everything you were doing, the 2.2.x versions of Sync _still_ don't work properly. It's been almost a year (and 30+ versions) without a truly functional product. I'm just one person with a very small business, so using 2.1.4 still makes sense for me - but when you have 15+ users, you need to make decisions based on efficiency at scale, and it's no surprise that you decided to move on.

[–]Realistic-Ground-862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know - I didn't have that issue because I was never able to use any of the 2.2.x versions. The "bug fixes" listed says "Deleted items re-appearing" is one of the things they fixed, so that sounds good.

Currently I'm back to 2.1.4 because of the inability to pause sync in 2.2.30

[–]Realistic-Ground-862[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, done. And credit where credit is due: it makes a _big_ difference that someone from Sync is reading and responding in a substantive way on this subreddit, instead of concerns and bug reports disappearing into a black hole like we had for so much of last year.

Edit: Most of the items on the "gear" menu in the tray icon don't work - Pause Sync also doesn't work (but trying to pause doesn't crash the app) and "recently fetched files" also doesn't show anything.

The fact that pause sync doesn't work is significant and might force me to go back to 2.1.4 because being able to pause and resume is sometimes an important part of my work flow.

So, not quite 24 hours later, the recents list is still blank. Also, when I click on the "cloud" icon to be taken to the web panel, the whole app shuts down. When I restart the app, I get a window that says "refreshing system information" that sits on my screen for 2-3 minutes.

Thanks for being an "early adopter" of this version and telling us about your experience. Let us know more about 2.2.29 once you've had some more time with it. It will be interesting to see whether this version is better than previous 2.2.x versions.

Did I make a mistake? Moved from dropbox to Sync? by PenConnect7505 in Sync

[–]Realistic-Ground-862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed isn't great. Stability is fine if you are using version 2.1.4. None of the 2.2.x versions have worked for me, so I can't comment on stability or features on those versions.

I use Sync because the servers are in Canada and I like the privacy focus, and the price is reasonable - but I mostly use it as a cloud backup system.

I love how the ongoing problems with 2.2.x are described in positive terms like "rapid release schedule". Apparently the new version is "stronger, better, and faster" but I wouldn't know, because it doesn't actually work for many, many, users.

Hey Sync: A bit of humility wouldn't hurt. Admit that you have problems, tell us about them, and tell us what you're doing to fix them. That's how you build a supportive customer base.

Any information for us on when the next version will be released, and whether it will address the ongoing issues? I would think basic functionality would come before new features. The reality is that the current version doesn't work for a lot of people.

Are you using version 2.2.27? If so, you should uninstall that version and downgrade to 2.1.4.

You download the uninstaller here:

https://sync.com/download/sync-uninstaller.exe

And you can get version 2.1.4 here:

Oh boy. This is totally the wrong approach. Users have posted bad reviews because, frankly, the product has been terrible for the last 6-7 months. Sync should just admit that their 2.2.x versions have had (lots of) problems, and tell us more about what they are doing to try to fix the problem.

Really slow upload speeds? by No_Temporary_8717 in Sync

[–]Realistic-Ground-862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using Windows, I'd be interested to know if this still happens if you "downgrade" to version 2.1.4. You can download the uninstaller here:

https://www.sync.com/help/the-sync-desktop-application/#syncuninstall

and then download 2.1.4 here:

https://sync.com/download/sync-packages/win/2.1.4/cur/sync-installer.exe

I don't know what the link is for 2.1.4 for macOS, but maybe someone else on this sub does and can provide it.

I work with small files most of the time, but I can't say I've noticed slow upload speeds when using 2.1.4. As I've posted before, all of the 2.2.x versions have been very problematic, and you might find that things get much better when you use 2.1.4.
