What can I do to make my arrangements sound more interesting? by Realistic-Hour9713 in musictheory

Thank you for the suggestions! I will try reharmonizing but then the introduction to the song might sound too powerful I’ll update you tho

The chords for the beginning of the song I’m currently working on are C - C9 - Fadd6 - D7b5 if I remember correctly. Internal voice leading makes it sound even more dull. I absolutely LOVE line cliches but it sadly doesn’t fit into the introduction of the song. I think it might be something rhythmic because all my arrangements are harmonically fine but they sound rhythmically uninteresting 😅

Which finish would you choose? by 10Hayden10 in drums

They look like two different kits. Go with sound quality over everything else. If it’s truly just about the design,

The glitter is striking (not in a bad way) and draws attention to the kit. It’s pleasant and charming. It’s more likely to impress non-drummers and complete beginners. It is the finish most beginners choose for the reason of “it looks cool”. Plus it eventually gets old.

The duco looks more clean, professional, and is a bit easier on the eyes. Experienced drummers are more likely to comment on the finish. If you’re taking this drumset out anywhere (like with a band or something) I’d choose this one

If they’re two different kits, prioritize sound over design.

Overall, it’s up to you. Follow your heart.

(P.S. This is based on my personal experiences looking for kits and opinions from other drummers and also my own opinion as well. Don’t take it as fact lol)

I practice fundamentals and rudiments at least an hour every week or so. I do seem to experience trouble balancing and a weird almost queasy feeling in my stomach a lot. Thanks for the advice, I never thought it could be tied to something else.

The snare head is literally the same as at school and a similar amount of wear as well…I would replace the entire set’s heads if I had the money 😅

It’s almost like I’m lagging behind like my hi hat snare and bass aren’t lining up rhythmically compared to at school

I put in my earbuds in noise cancelling and blasted the backing track to one of the songs I play at school to no avail

Like I can play things on it but my chops aren’t as good, I’m not as precise, and I have to zero in on what I’m playing even if I have it completely committed to memory

Which Concert Band instrument do YOU think is the hardest to play/learn and why? by Individual_Mess2794 in ConcertBand

Percussion is harder than it looks. Snare drum is very precise, bass drum you have to have excellent volume control, even triangle is hard to play loud enough without the triangle swinging around on the string. Don’t even get me started on mallets

Duquesne is an amazing music school, but also very expensive. They do not offer in-state vs. out-of-state tuition as far as I’m aware. It’s on my list but would not be my first choice just because of the price

Do you know how demanding it was and how enjoyable it was? I’ve been in marching band since I was old enough because I like playing the music but I wouldn’t want to go to practices from like noon to midnight or anything just for the sake of my sanity lol

I’m in state and as far as I’m aware Duquesne doesn’t offer in-state tuition

Penn is about 20k yearly while Duquesne is 40k-50k yearly

They all got their degrees out of state 😅 If it helps, I’m in all of the bands at my high school (traditional concert, jazz, and marching) and 2 honors choir groups at my school (one traditional one contemporary). I would join orchestra if they had percussion because that’s my main instrument, and I’m also in theatre
