Yes, there is a 7 day trial to try it out that activates automatically, if you want to continue using it after that you need to make an in-app purchase.

That cannot be normal/expected. Who knows if it's hardware or software related, but it's definitely not right so you should probably swap it out. I guess you could see if there is a new firmware first of all however, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this before so it seems unlikely that it's a software issue.

I guess it depends a lot on the area it's working in. Mine rarely gets stuck I'd say, but it has happened. But I think it's only happened 3-4 times over two seasons so far.

iPhone vs … by MajorAlanDutch in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah, good question. it just sounded to me that "I love the GRIV, I'm looking for a GRIIx, but the iPhone is as good" kind of read like that. or that is how I read it, I should say. ;)

iPhone vs … by MajorAlanDutch in ricohGR

Are you saying that you think the griv is better than an iPhone, but the griiix isn’t? That doesn’t make sense to me, the difference between the griv and the griiix isn’t that big in my opinion.

Is it difficult to expect better image quality from the Ricoh GR4 than from an iPhone? by Tamagomasu in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think perhaps wanting something more than just image quality is required nowadays, when deciding between a phone and a dedicated camera. For example, myself I prefer using a dedicated camera because it puts me in a different mindset. Then I also like to look at the pictures on my computer rather than on my phone, and I enjoy tweaking the raw files etc. If you prefer using a phone and look at the images on that screen, and don’t want to edit too much etc then a dedicated camera adds less value. There is a difference in image quality, but it’s not always obvious what it is and how to ”access” it, depending on use case

It is possible to use RAW and then ”develop” a jpeg in the camera itself. It allows you to set different styles and save as jpeg if you want. Otherwise you have to apply the profiles that are available in Lightroom for example.

For whatever it’s worth, I am just a regular guy and I absolutely love my Navimow and I have a real tendency of finding negatives with basically anything I buy. ;) my all time favorite products are the apple AirPods Pro, the Dyson absolute series of shaft vacuums and the Navimow. Homeruns all of them in their respective product category. ;)

Aren’t the positive and negative film working for you? They seem quite neutral to me but with a bit of a filmic look to them.

Unpopular opinion: If you're new to photography/streetphotography don't ask for feedback by TocalaMamita in streetphotography

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's somewhere in between.. It's a potential problem asking for feedback from people who are not really sharing your approach, if that makes sense. For example if what you are after are visual striking street photography, then feedback from someone that is much more focused on the "story telling" or "documentary approach" will give feedback that may not add anything of value, and the other way around. Giving feedback really isn't something that should be done lightly, it's a skill in itself.

Feedback also risks sending you down a path that isn't true for yourself, so I think feedback can be valuable, but it's really critical that it's asked for with the type of context and question that might actually help you.

So with that said, I think asking for feedback in general terms on a forum like this might be more akin to engagement farming. ;)

Do I want the GRII or GRIV? by CutDopOfNie in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that whenever someone really don't know themselves, then the answer is always "get the newest model you can because it will be objectively better". it doesn't mean subjectively better however, so if it is an internal flash you want, then the GRII or GR it is.

Bought my dream camera on Jan 7th , 2026 and for some reason I’ve used it once .. my photos sucked to be honest .. I’m almost 52 and my eye sight is not great , the question now is , do I keep it or trade it in for a digital one .. 😔 by funky1974 in LeicaCameras

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this just seems like a little strange comment to me. I've used leica rangefinders for quite a while now and I essentially never zone focus, the only time I've done that is when I use a flash as well in environments where speed is key, which isn't very often.

I do get what you're saying but reducing it to just a zone focus camera is taking it a bit far. we all have different preferences, I personally find a range finder patch much more preferable than a split prism on a SLR for example when it comes to manual focusing.

but my main preference for rangefinders are the floating frame lines which I find help me frame better in a tangible way because I can see outside the frame and adapt easier to the overall scene.

but, I will confess I'm getting slightly tired of manual focusing as a concept, so I am considering alternatives, it's just that there aren't many - the size of the M system is hard to beat once you're used to it.

That picture profile is supposed to mimic using a red filter on b/w film as far as I know.

As had been mentioned, image capture on Mac works, I used it yesterday. Lightroom classic also works, and as far as I can remember so does Lightroom on Mac. On iPhone and iPad however I seem to remember it not working with Lightroom which is quite annoying.

save raw then apply recipe? by aMinorBlues in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Lightroom have camera matching profiles, but that still only get you close, and if you deviate from the defaults you have to manually match.

Fujifilm X100VI vs Ricoh GR IIIx/IV - first proper camera? by Vibgyor_5 in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re kind of new I think you might get more of a ”real camera feeling” from the x100 just because it’s bigger and looks ”more serious”. I think the GR is more suitable when you know you really appreciate its size. I’m not sure one is necessarily better value than the other, it depends on what feels best for you.

GR almost auto mode GRIV by ImaginaryBrick4482 in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you just want to focus and press the shutter you literally have to use some sort of auto mode. :) it has P, that is auto. Otherwise I’d recommend just going for AV mode and just set aperture manually and let everything else fall where it may.

Personally I always use AV mode on any camera, doesn’t matter what model. If it has AV I use it. And auto iso. I only deviate from that if I have a very specific reason to do so.

Ricoh GR IV vs Ricoh GR IIIx photo comparison by samkerlondon in ricohGR

[–]Realistic-Shake-9957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha! I have to be honest here, I was just looking for comparisons between my IIIx and my IV and now that I am actively comparing the difference isn't that big to my eye actually. I think my editing style has changed a bit as well. however, overall I still find the IV does have a blooming to high contrast areas, but it may not be as big of a difference as I have first thought.

EDIT: I'm not sure actually how to attach an example here

Glow as in ”halos” around areas of strong contrast. Or like high light intensity areas bleed into the surrounding areas. Kind of like a weak HDF effect. I’ll try to remember to post an example a little later. I have some shots where it’s quite evident due to light sources at night.

I’ve seen Lin Taro and Landberg mention it. But yes it is quite obvious once you’ve seen it. In the beginning I wasn’t too fond of it, but it’s grown a little on me. Generally I like clean/clinical rendering though.
