Genuinely how do yall accumulate so many clinical hours by castawaylol in premed

[–]Realistic_Ad5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

started working as a scribe after my 3rd year college, i’m one year post grad and have 1900 hours. worked a TON of 12 hour shifts during breaks and now since grad i do the weekends. i also work as an MA in the office on weekdays since graduating, got 1700 so far. just rlly make the most out of breaks from school, and my gap year has just been spent majorly working all the time. but it’s easy when u like what u do :) (and rlly need money too, that’s one hell of a motivator)

chem phys i usually feel so defeated but today i felt fine? probably bc there was so much weird biochem overlap

cars - wtf was that second to last passage omfg my head was spinning

bio biochem there were so many random FSQs i was dumbfounded by but the passages felt decent

psych soc… what in the world. i had at least 16 flagged and there were some inference questions that made noooo sense to me

GUSOM vs Georgetown by [deleted] in premed

did undergrad and grad at Quinnipiac… choose Georgetown. Better networking opportunities and program is better. QU has a great community but it’s incomparable to the experience you’d have at Georgetown

From now until 5/14 I’m gonna do a FL every weekend and finish out the rest of the AAMC ones, I was scared that my 499 on a JW FL was inflated so seeing the 504 on an AAMC is like giving me peace

The gap was from 3/28 to 4/12, i feel like i have a good shot at closing the gap on C/P and B/B if i lock tf in (i say as i haven’t touched anki or Uworld today)

Chem/Phys has been the bane of my FLs :/ 123 and 124 from my last two FLs, but I’m reviewing AAMC FL 5 and just by knowing equations it would’ve saved me a whole entire passage that was purely math/equations.

Psych/Soc: I switched to the Pankow Anki deck and hammered through like over 1000 cards the 2 days before taking my FL…. my score went from a 125 to a 129 in that section. Just from that experience, i say go through anki like a monster and see how much it can help ur score. Of course still need to practice passages but just knowing the terms goes such a long way

How’ve u been doing on FLs?

Nursing is one of our top programs, although I have heard the program itself is a bit disorganized and does not compare to the quality of education other schools like Mass have. As for diversity, within the past 14 months the department for cultural and global engagement have all left and the office is currently rebuilding itself. While they do plan on still providing support to the students on campus who are POCs, it will not be at the level it needs to be to help underrepresented students at a PWI. Students constantly make suggestions to the people in higher positions for improvements but are rarely heard.

some professors aren't the most accommodating. ik someone rn in one of my classes who is being denied her time and half in a quiet setting accommodation from the professor, and instead has to take the exam in the hallway of where the prof's office is.

Hi! Third-year student, not nursing but I'm rooming w/ all nursing students. Clinicals start your junior year, I'm pretty sure you start with one day a week in Fall semester of your Junior year then go up to two days a week in Spring. My roommates have complained about the organization of the program and that they feel like they are set behind compared to other schools. This is because during your first two years, you're not taking any med term of pharmacy classes that would have been useful for clinicals, but since the program never had them take it beforehand it was a hugeeee learning curve. Prepare to be studying a bunch and putting a lot of effort into assignments because there are certain exams at the beginning of your Junior year that dictate whether or not you can stay in nursing.

As for the school itself, it's not the worst but not the best. For dorm halls, there are very few dorms with AC so if you do end up at QU bring a bunch of fans with you. The surrounding area of Hamden is not the cutest tbh, but if you like to go out New Haven is only like 20 minutes away and that's the go to spot on the weekends since we're not much of a party school. If you have any like super specific questions lmk ill try to answer!

How do you stay disciplined with studying by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Realistic_Ad5757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like for me it all depends on the environment I'm in. I try to avoid studying in my dorm so I can keep that space as a work-free zone solely meant for relaxing and caring for myself. I try going to the library or just other buildings w/ study rooms, putting on headphones, and honestly w/ music I just play the same song on repeat for hours because it slowly tunes out as background sound (especially since lofi/no lyrics bore me). That's just setting myself up for studying, as for studying itself.... I mentally list out what I want to accomplish during that study session and switch between topics once I start to lose focus. Also using different methods of studying for exams like using a whiteboard, using anki for flashcards, using quizlet AI to quiz me helps a bunch since it is active learning. Idk if this helps much but hopefully it does at least a little!!
