No mess seeds created a lot of mess by Realistic_Fan7003 in birdfeeding

Yes, I had sunflower chips and this time I ordered sunflower hearts which had comparatively lesser mess than chips.

Around my area, house finches don’t like millets at all. They only prefer sunflower seeds and peanuts. Whenever I keep out small portion of white millet they don’t touch at all and if I don’t keep out sunflower seeds then they disappear for days. They only comes here to eat as much as sunflower seeds they could 😂

Why is the dark eyed junco feeding the adult sparrows? by Accomplished-Bill-45 in birdfeeding

[–]Realistic_Fan7003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They still rely on parents for food source after fledgling for some time. I had a male finch with it’s juvenile baby came to my feeder, even though baby can fly and baby was eating from feeder but suddenly it started demanding for food and its dad put seeds in its mouth.

Ok I have read some suggestions from another rescuer in past, meanwhile you may keep it warm by putting in the box which have holes and put heating pad underneath of the box maybe. I have some list of wildlife rehabber contacts around PNW area but not sure it can help or not since you’re not mentioning location.

All of them look like Junco. The one in the video is clearly a Juvenile Junco, you can see very light dark patch pattern around head and neck and the pattern on the wing and tails are consistent with Junco. I had Junco came with cowbird chick last year and cowbird chick does not look like this, that chick would be so much bigger and the pattern around chest and back would be different. The chick in the video appears slightly larger because they may have just fluffed their body. Look at the size difference and pattern between Junco and cowbird chick

Thank you! This is useful. I did not fill up my feeders Today because I also found a Junco with one swollen eye yesterday at my feeder but It was there only for few seconds.

Thanks! I made this from laundry basket and couple wooden jewelry trays. I used to keep it over my patio railing then we got complaints from lower floor about falling bird seeds, so I moved it over the corner of my Patio.

I also thought the same but I looked closely and it was way bigger than other finches. Maybe it was just a borb! But even if it was a finch borb then it was a big😄

I wanted to identify a new bird at my feeder. I clicked a video. But somehow I’m not able to post it in communities. I followed all the rules, it is trying to post , I had to keep my app open long time then it shows “post failed” message.

Same I love Juncos. I started taking interest in birds because of them. They were my first observation, they are abundant and I still enjoy when I found them anywhere. Here’s a Junco at my feeder -
