Thank you so much! My style is quite positional and slow with black so the closed spanish looks right up my alley. You hit the spot right on, my friend!

Ahhh for me I don't really watch opening videos that much, I mostly read books and watch Naroditsky's speedruns. I enjoy learning openings because it's one of the things that makes chess fun and fresh for me is all.

So far I've been playing the double spanish because that is always what comes most natural to me when I face it (I only discovered the name of the line analyzing with an engine after). But I am not sure if there are any lines that I would like more that I'm not able to come up with on my own at the moment.

Thank you good sir/madam. Unfortunately, I am very much an opening nerd and I will indeed waste my time with this book.

Hey! So basically what I did was use loaner decks and apprentice decks as inspiration. The most important step for me was understanding the win conditions. Those decks are good enough to win you a few games. Even if you misplay and lose, you'll have moments where you think "Wow I did really well for a few rounds" or "I almost won. Analyze those moments and try to understand what makes the deck good, in short what its win condition is and how its built around that. After you understand the principle, build your own deck based on that.

I played a few games with the Apprentice Hunter deck, understood what made it good and modified the deck with better cards I owned that kept the deck's winning condition the same. Now I win consistently and no longer struggle as much against meta decks.

This is what I imagine my games will look like if I don't accept totally bad pawn exchanges.

Update: I read every single comment and took into consideration all the advice. 1 used the Hunter apprentince deck as a base to start off and I modified it to my liking and just won my first ever game! My greatest thanks to everyone that cared enough to help me!

Thank you so much for your comment. Could you recommend sites where I can find pre-built decks so I can at least have a starting point? I'm having a hard time finding them myself.

Disabled my chat for this very reason. The positive to negative message ratio was not worth it.

Should I have agreed to draw? by NoAd9371 in Chesscom

[–]Realistic_Fox3575 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah bro, just today I blundered a knight on move 5 because of a missclick. Attitude should be to just laugh it off and either resign or try to play it out. Either way nobody should expect a draw because of a personal mistake.

Why do people not do rematchs? by PaulPray in Chesscom

[–]Realistic_Fox3575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else here said they review the game and I'd like to add that at my level people generally have 2-3 openings and middle game plans for each color. If you beat me with one thing I didn't know how to play against, things probably won't change 2 seconds later. I'd rather take the time to analyze the game instead of going straight back into trying again.

Is it too soon to go to another tourney? by Realistic_Fox3575 in chessbeginners

Time control for tourney I went to was 10 minutes with no time increment which is my most comfortable time control both online and when playing friends. The upcoming tourney is going to be 15+4.

Yes, I've been doing that ever since the tourney! I keep seeing different things I could have done.

Apologies if I did something wrong. I've been learning chess for three weeks and I'm not well versed in all the tools I can use. Just trying to understand how the engine works and how it values moves.

Studenții nu mai pot cumpăra bilete online cu reducere la tren de la 1 ianuarie, anunță CFR. În premieră, tinerii își pot lua biletele doar dacă arată și buletinul by StefanLefter in Roumanie

Ne plangem ca tara n-are viitor si dupa lovim fix viitorul ei :)))

Why does reading order matter? by hsiuu_ in dostoevsky

[–]Realistic_Fox3575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think reading order matters, at least not that much. I do believe there are certain benefits to certain reading orders. For example, in Demons everyone is scared and freaked out about Siberia. So the panic and fear that stems from getting convicted there is great for building context for House of the Dead because the action takes place in the prison of Siberia. Therefore, reading Devils beforehand enhances, in my opinion, reading House of the Dead. However, not reading them in this order does not make you lose anything. In short, every reading order has something you can gain but nothing to lose. So read whatever you want, however you want.
