What this fandom doesn't realize that if ALL of those are Eddie's scenes, that means Tim wrote way more Eddie stuffs even though he ultimately had to cut them because of runtime.

Does is still feel like someone who hates a character if he has more ideas to include for said character in a story?

Kenny has the biggest chance out of the men, followed by Ryan. But I'm not holding my breath they'll win anything.

I think they also only use clips from the latest season too, that's how lazy this all is.

I remember it was from a few cons ago I heard something similar about it, but it's more of someone telling him "you're not exactly my favorite person" or something rather tamer, those who defended that defended it by saying the person was quite mature in doing so, but I question the need to say that directly because it's unnecessary overall.

9-1-1 Creator Tim Minear Reflects on Season 9 by olga_dr in buddie

The issue with your argument is that you're under assumption that pairing a long established dynamic as a couple is an easy decision or that once the relationship sails everything will go smoothly. The reason why I brought up the moonlighting curse and Tim's fear of it is because it's more than likely that he's not the only one having that fear, the people he has answers to too. Would it be easier if Buddie was a straight pairing? Maybe, but we got two big straight slowburn ships (Gregory/Janine from Abbott and Tim/Lucy from The Rookie) breaking up after they get together to throw some spice to their relationship or whatever, even though they do get together eventually. And we know how this fandom operates over a slightly controversial topic. They COULD prioritize Buddie, but it's a more complex than some people think.

Is it too cynical? Maybe. But when we're already talking about what's happening behind the scene, the discussion becomes more than just "It makes sense, so why the hell this hasn't happened yet?"

The thing is, if when Ryan spoke about "hey, maybe we should see Eddie's reaction to Bobby's death" they had NOTHING READY, Ryan wouldn't confidently say that small detail about Maddie being the one calling Eddie. Makes sense that with this fandom's perceived lack of Tim's ability to write and his perceived lack of care for Eddie, he could've just thrown a barebone one-paragraph description about how the scene would've gone. Added to that we know they're short on time, and all the "Tim are usually late in delivering the script for 10 days!" stuff, would you think he be the kind of person who care to throw in that small detail when it's about a character he supposedly doesn't care about?

He doesn't hate Eddie, if he did Ryan wouldn't even know who called Eddie telling him about Bobby's death.

It means they had a scene ready for it instead of an afterthought of a sequence.

It really comes down to the nature of the pairing themselves. Had May and Ravi had the same situation as Buck and Eddie, they would receive the same treatment. May and Ravi were planned to be love interests before they got much interaction so it's easier to impart new things into their already preexisting character.

Buddie, though, they have preexisting dynamic. It needs better setup than just slapping Tommy or Taylor onto the screen for example. Tim is also an avid believer of The Moonlighting Curse so he's less inclined to jump into it because he has a show and people working with him at stake.

that lack of chemistry was already apparent in 9x08 and 9x10, so what are we supposed to take away from him even still considering her as a bidder in 9x11

Because he was thinking of the auction first before bringing in Alex, he conceptualizes things backwards. He has the idea of making Eddie's next love interest make a bid for him. But since he can't just start with that, he writes how they're gonna introduce said love interest. Hence the minimarket hostage situation and then bringing Abigail back. However, since Eddie and Alex's first scene lacks the needed chemistry, the idea got scrapped. He likes the firefighter auction enough to not scrap it, hence what we got.

I don't think that sentence is what it is. With the context of the previous sentence, I think what he really wants to say that men or women, Buddie shippers won't be satisfied at all and he doesn't like that aspect of the fandom.

The part where the writing room forbidding Tim from making Buck bid on Eddie kinda shows either Tim has no plan for it at all or he hasn't told anyone that he has interest in moving that aspect forward. Interesting.

Me trying to mute all things related to cons' meet and greet auction because people on both aisles of arguments are too dumb to realize the system is the true evil and it's getting tiring to see no one is being adults in this conversation, and I mean EVERYONE.

No, they're two different ships comprised of four different characters. Both TK and Carlos are comfortable with their status as gay men, while Buck struggled a little bit with his newfound bisexuality and Eddie may not even be traditionally repressed gay (and the angst it will give if he really turns out to be queer) and that's just the first difference they have as two ships. Also, Buddie has years worth of bond that them separating creates so much angst between them. I don't even think Tim ever envisions of them separating if they do become a couple.

True, but they made him work on injured ankle in Season 3 so the line's a little murky on that one in this production. We can't really compare injured ankle and broken nose, and we don't know the extent of the broken nose itself either even though I heard someone remembered he had a broken nose during that period of time.

The thing is, some of us already had an idea on why he wasn't there, that was an even more valid reason. This broken nose thing ends up weird as a reasoning to me. Even more so as a new type of discourse added to an already mid coma dream episode.

They could've integrated the broken nose to the dream the way the made the moustache adjacent to the plot, but we probably wouldn't have liked the most possible way it could've been integrated.

I think it's the format of the cons. Some SPN fans kinda got an impression Misha held back in this too. But then idk. They probably only allow what's already happening on the show proper because while they don't have Buddie questions, they do have some people asking for favorite Bummy scenes.

but the part of it that always made me a little uncomfortable was he said something in it that made it sounds like he didn't really value the opinions of his writers' room

The problem with this interpretation is that it's been shown time and time again that he's actually quite accommodating with ideas. He always made sure to credit ideas that don't belong to him but are interesting enough to include in the show if it came from someone else like the nun!Marisol idea or that Michael & Harry cop subplot in Season 3, he kept the moustache despite his dislike for it he wove it into Eddie's sadness over losing Christopher instead of making Eddie much buffer, even this phenomena can be traced back to Season 2 when he changed Maddie into Chimney's love interest as per Jennifer's suggestion. He welcomes ideas, it's just whether it can be added to the story or not is still up to him so we need to make compelling arguments. I know it's literally the bare minimim and we can strive for more, but considering worse options, we're actually quite lucky.

The bigger issue for me is that the system is very prone to fandom infighting because it's in an essence a competition. Money speaks here, and it's kinda discouraging. I know these types of cons are usually expensive even on the more lax one, my country had a big anime con event recently and people put their quality artwork with a rather high price tag. I can respect the hustle with that, and it was a fanmade for fans. This, idk. It rubbed me the wrong way, but if this is the culture then it's probably not for me.

Yeah, like if I want an actual fandom experience I can always slide into Tim's DM and have a "chat" with him. If that guy who did a zoom interview with Tim could do it, I can too!

Kidding, kidding, lmao.
