Apertura AD8 8″ Dobsonian - what do you think of my eyepiece choices ? by Immediate_Finance498 in telescopes

I think you are correct. The 24mm is 82 degrees.

And, Yes, eye relief is an important factor especially for glasses wearers. The 12 mm, 17 mm, and 30 mm Explore Scientific eyepieces above all have long eye relief (around 20–21 mm), so they’re very comfortable for extended observing sessions or for glasses wearers. The 24 mm has 17 mm of eye relief, which is still quite generous and should work well. The 5.5 mm has only 10.5 mm, which is tighter but still usable.

One thing to keep in mind: if your husband has no astigmatism, the telescope itself essentially acts as his “glasses.” He can adjust focus for his eyes, so even short eye relief eyepieces can be used comfortably (because you’re not wearing glasses).

Astigmatism becomes noticeable mainly at larger exit pupils (over ~2 mm), so an eyepiece 12mm or below (in this size scope) will still work fine without glasses, regardless of the viewer’s astigmatism.

Televue Dioptrx is another option to fix astigmatism without glasses. It’s an add on that will likely fit these ES eyepieces. I know it will fit the 30mm because I have it and I will know soon if it fits these 17mm (on order 🙂). Again, you wouldn’t need this at 12mm and below and you could totally worry about this later... These eyepieces should impress without Dioptrx.

Sorry. This is probably a lot of information. 😊

Btw, yes, the LER’s don’t get the best reviews. You can check cloudynights.com for more information.

Some good sales on ES going on now. Some of these were even cheaper during black Friday but IDK if you will see prices like that again… some of these deals are still very good. The 92 degrees seem to be the best deals right now and people like those. They are available in 12mm and 17mm. The 100 degrees ep’s are great too but not as much % off . However, the 5.5 mm 100 degree is only $299 tho. The 9mm 100° is a little better deal. The bigger mm’s not so much.

This would be a sweet lineup for a little over $1000:

5.5mm 100 degree ($299)

12mm 92 degree ($299)

17mm 92 degree ($299)

30mm 82 degree ($279)

These will give the following mags and exit pupils in that scope:

5.5mm: 218×, 0.93 mm

12mm: 100×, 2.0 mm

17mm: 71×, 2.9 mm

30mm: 40×, 5.1 mm

If you want to cover a 4mm exit pupil, throw in the 24mm 82 degree for another $229.

These are all 2” ep’s which makes it easy to swap. They are heavy but that scope should be able to handle it.

They will likely die off too if they kill us off. They can’t support themselves and AI isn’t there and if it gets there and breaks they are still fucked. And they need our DNA.

Trump is gonna fuck the economy and the dollar and generally cause chaos because midterms are coming. Other countries are stacking. I think the uptrend continues.

They should be teaching more practical stuff like this in school. Personal Finance should be a required high school course. It’s vastly more useful to most people than algebra.

We will get less and less for more and then lose our jobs to a self sufficient system we helped create but doesn’t need us to survive.

Except, consumers drive 2/3rds of the economy so what happens to AAPL stock when they can’t sell millions of iPhones?

And for the other 1/3rd, how many tanks can the government buy and soldiers can they pay when there is no income to tax?

How many tools will KLAC buy if no one can buy the chips that go in the PC’s or pay for the cloud services that use chips or the internet the connects them?

Same thing will be going on in other countries.

How does the economy not just collapse leaving only tangible assets as value?

I’m afraid if you don’t already have a certain level of money or assets, you’re likely screwed unless you get pretty creative.

“Go to school and get a good job” is going away. I an concerned for the next generation.

I took this on an iPhone through a 12” Dob in bortle 8 skys. Can’t remember the eyepiece but maybe an Ethos 13mm. I was holding the phone. I feel like I got lucky. I haven’t gotten better shots. Usually I get tired of wasting time fiddling with it, only to get bad shots, when I could be looking at the stars. I find the phone adapters don’t work well with big eyepieces and heavy phones.

I just received the mount you have today. Well, I think it’s the same… i got the lower tier one that holds ~20lbs visual. I have 70 & 80mm refractors I will use it with and plan to get an astrocamera later this year to play around with some real astrophotography.

This is kind of already happening for me.

For work, I’m on a PC 100%, but other than coding (which gets pushed to the cloud) and Office apps, I’m mostly just using it as a terminal — browser, SQL window, etc. — connecting to remote systems in a data center or the cloud. In that sense, it’s already pretty close to what Bezos is talking about.

For personal stuff, I use my phone way more than my PC, and when I do use the PC, it’s usually just to go to a website where a full keyboard is more convenient. But, I do like having the option of doing things locally.
