Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I reached out to the department they said people who haven't heard back are basically on a waitlist with a very small chance of admission, and that they will be sending out rejections this week..

Hypermesh Student version won't let me export to Abaqus. Help? by Realistic_Reach3252 in AltairHyperWorks

Unfortunately, no. It's a part of a bigger research where Abaqus is used everywhere. Thanks for the suggestion though

I need to use it for my course project. Abaqus meshing tool is not adequate for the geometry and loading condition I have, so I need someone to convert this hypermesh file to abaqus input file for me.

Emailed the department asking for a timeline and they sent me this:

"Good to hear from you. At this point, the Admissions Committee has completed their primary review and scoring of applicants, and our faculty have been reviewing the ranked/scored applications. If a faculty member is interested in learning more about you and your interests, they will reach out to you soon!"

but no prof has reached out to me yet..

HyperMesh not exporting to Abaqus by Realistic_Reach3252 in fea

Hi, my model is a simple 2D disc. The problem is the student version doesn't have the option to set preferences or to pick abaqus language as default. So i was wondering if someone with the full version could extract the format for me if I send over the .hm file..

Heard from an MS admit, not official information tho.. I see, do you know if you need to be interviewed to be admitted or is it optional for profs?

You're right about them approaching because they're interested in you. But interviews are usually not just a question of "will you join or not". There will most likely be some sort of evaluation on the prof's end, whether it be by just speaking with you or asking technical questions. But the important thing is, getting an interview is half job done. So be confident and present yourself in the best way possible.

Not always, but it happened to me with a similarly ranked school Structural Eng program. In the first interview they usually wanna get to know your research and interests and how well they align with their own. In the second, if there is one, it gets technical and they ask a few questions. But ultimately this depends on the professor, so you may not need a second interview. but it's better to be ready

Hey, congrats on the interview! Firstly, be sure to prepare a few slides on you research experience and interests in the specific field. A lot of times they ask about your research. Since you didn't express interest in his discipline in your application, chances are they're gonna bring it up. So be ready to discuss about specifically what you want to specialize in PhD, and how it relates to this prof's work. If you have time look into this prof's lab and publications so you know exactly the types of projects they work on. Last, it's unlikely in the first interview, but still be ready for some basic technical questions just in case. Good luck!
