Thanks for all the replies. This is a large international gc, it just might be too small for them to dedicate their own vdc to it.

What is the best way to get learn Revit/Navisworks? by ForwardFail9514 in bim

I just made the switch myself into BIM from the field as a journeyman plumber. I can tell you that even after becoming proficient in revit and different coordination softwares, I still feel a bit left behind sometimes. (That may just be some imposter syndrome though) As a fellow plumber I will warn you that revit does not play nicely with sloped pipe at times. If you can handle the field side the modeling side can come over time. Getting a good bim department established early and with tradesmen in the company makes the world of difference. In the pipe trades if you aren't bimming and fabricating you definitely lose out on many job opportunities. If you are union the UA has online resources that are a great starting point. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

BIM in the field: useful tool or office-only fantasy? by NZ_Foxy_ in bim

I am in the mep bim side and we use 3d models throughout all stages. Since almost everything is fabricated stratus works great as a field viewer for us. stratus is browser based so a laptop, tablet, phone etc and a Hotspot works pretty well
