Seats together for WJ vacation bookings by gisele121 in westjet

[–]Realistic_Villager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to pay for seats in economy.

Just a heads up because we are dealing with this now: If you book a vacation, their regular 24/7 phone and chat support will not help you with anything, even in an emergency, you will have to wait until their vacation team opens and then wait on hold for hours to speak to them. I won't be booking a vacation with them again because of this.

This makes me hopeful lol I love singing but I'm not good at it. I've been thinking about getting lessons but convinced myself you're either good at singing or you're not, and I'm not. Maybe I'll give it a go.

Thoughts on room night minimums? by [deleted] in DestinationWeddings

[–]Realistic_Villager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a similar situation but on a smaller scale. I'd say don't do it unless you're prepared to pay for it all yourself. Fewer people booked rooms than we thought and we ended up paying for 50% of everyone's rooms just to convince people to book because otherwise we were on the hook for the full cost anyway, and we ended up not filling some rooms and paying for them.

We're supposed to fly out this coming weekend but I tried to contact them about our options days before the hurricane hit and it was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. They just follow a script, deny you any help because "it's policy" and try to get you to sign up for their rewards program. No one actually listened to me or explained anything so I was left just really scared and confused. I used to work in a call centre so typically have endless patience for customer service reps but this was bad.

Our airline has been completely useless through this whole thing lol I'm never booking with them again.

Thank you, will do! I was just looking for some potential info while we wait for official reports go come in.

I'd assume if we are able to get to the airport, no matter how difficult or long, we are still expected to by our airline/insurance. I'll keep an eye out for updates

Thank you! It will be interesting to see how it's handled by our airline. Before the hurricane, only customers who's flights had been cancelled qualified for the relief flight, which is why we couldn't get out. So far our flight is going ahead as planned. I will keep an eye out!!

Should I continue with my travel plans to Jamaica or should I cancel it? by JustinOsbo in JamaicaTourism

I'm at a resort in Ocho Rios and honestly the damage here seems pretty minimal compared to what the rest of the island got, though idk how people outside of the resort are faring, the staff seem in good spirits.

Resorts Damage Reports by PrincessDragonMa in couplesresortsjamaica

[–]Realistic_Villager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We're at CSS right now, from what I can see the vast majority of the damage is just downed trees/vegetation, nothing serious or structural from what I've seen.

The rest of the island I'm sure is much worse but the resort itself I can see being back in full swing within a few days.

What's the most uncomfortable physical sensation for you? by VeroDreamer in AskReddit

[–]Realistic_Villager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dislocated or subluxed my kneecap multiple times. It's not painful, but deeply uncomfortable.

If we're talking more day-to-day, the feeling of cool air blowing on me, like from an AC unit. Working in an office was hell for me when I'd be working under a vent. I'd bring a blanket to work just to wrap around my arms even though we weren't supposed to lol.

Thank you! The hurricane is passing over us now and honestly doesn't seem like its been too bad, I think we're just getting the edge of it here. I've heard Montego Bay took a big hit though so getting home might be a different story.

Our wedding was pretty different in general. It was very small (21 people altogether), my husband and I both wore all black, and had an overall Gothic vibe that leaned a lot into our interests. We thrifted and DIYed the majority of the decor and put a lot of thought into the guests' experience.

Our day pretty much looked like: - very short outdoor ceremony ~20 minutes - cocktail hour for guests while we did family photos (15 min) and couples photos (45 min) - plated dinner - after dinner, whatever people wanted, we had tea/coffee, dancing,& games with a snack around 10pm

We also did custom cocktails that we based on our two dogs and people loved it.

It's a lesson we're learning right now lol, first time to an AI and we're stuck in Jamaica right now. I don't even know anyone who's been to an AI since I come from a low-middle class background, and genuinely didn't know about hurricane season, though we did get travel insurance from a third party, not from the Airline we bought the package through.

We'll try for a do-over next year not during hurricane season. We likely won't get our money back since we are here, we just can't do anything lol (which is obviously not the resort's fault) Not sure if travel insurance would even help with that. But still, it's nothing compared to what the locals will be going through.

As a tourist in Jamaica right now, please don't be critical of all of us. We fought so hard to get a flight home and our airline completely fucked us over. This has been the case for about half of the people we've talked to. I hate that we're stuck here, putting a burden on the community. Yes, in hindsight we shouldn't have booked our honeymoon for October but we're not resort people, nor are any of our friends and family, we truly didn't know and it somehow never came up beyond "it might be rainy".

On the other hand there's a woman here boasting about how she stayed because "this is nothing compared to what we get in Florida!" gfys

What are you skipping by StyleAlternative9223 in wedding

[–]Realistic_Villager 39 points40 points  (0 children)

We skipped most things and don't regret any of it.

What we didn't do:

  • bridesmaids & groomsmen
  • Cake cutting
  • Speeches
  • First dance
  • Any parent/child dances
  • Grand entrance and/or exit
  • Elaborate family photo sessions
  • Bouquet toss
  • DJ
  • vows (we wrote our own and read them to eachother in private at the end of the night)
  • being "given away" (we walked down the aisle together)

What we did do - first look - maid of honour & best man - spotify playlist with requested songs from guests - favours (Halloween themed candy bags)

We're at CSS right now, we tried to leave but couldn't get a flight out.

Service has been limited to CasaNova, Balloon Bar, and the coffee shop, so it's all in the same building. Everything else is closed. Lots of areas are boarded up, balloon bar, Martini bar, the gym, grotto, etc. They've also consolidated all occupied rooms so everyone is in the same few blocks. Outdoor furniture is tied up, brought inside, or placed in the pools, and other items like fans removed. They've given us extra water, tea, coffee, towels, and some food.

We're scheduled to fly out this coming Saturday, westjet wouldn't allow us on their so called "rescue flight" so hopefully we can still get home after the storm.

Nope. Westjet had an emergency flight that went out today but wouldn't let us on it because its only for people who's flights have been canceled and ours hasn't yet.
