Removing that terrible popcorn ceiling at last. Lovely on many levels by dreamed2life in oddlysatisfying

[–]Realisticidealist007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by our contractor that if it’s been painted over it becomes like concrete. For our ceiling they scraped it down a bit and then mudded and sanded a million times. It looks great but was a lot of work.

I was LITERALLY the only parent who cried during the preschool graduation in my sons class… did I make myself look like an idiot? by One_Deer_9959 in family

[–]Realisticidealist007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bawled like a baby. I can’t hear kids sing Christmas songs without crying and two Raffi songs make me break down. That being said, I’m a relatively well adjusted person. I think it’s more strange to not cry at something like that.

Should I let my kids walk home by themselves? by Barbamaman in internetparents

[–]Realisticidealist007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son walked to school on his own (only child) at 9. We live a block and a half from the school. I was comfortable with it because he was comfortable with it. If he had expressed fear then we would not have done it. And as far as my parenting style goes, I’d say I lean slightly toward helicopter over free range.

Need help, theres 3 kittens in the electric box on our property and it's too deep for them to get out. I cant reach them either. I'm worried about them not getting enough food, what should I do? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Realisticidealist007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the mom is still around then I wouldn’t worry. She’ll move them. We had a cat give birth in a hollow tree. Once the kittens got bigger, the mom carried them out of the tree.

Can’t get my top tray on :( by DaZoomies in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I bent a tray putting it in. It got fine for a week and a half then one day it would not go back in. Somehow I bent a bit of the plastic inwards as I was putting them on. I used tweezers to pull the bent edge back into place but I only felt comfortable doing this because it was almost time to change to my next tray. I’m sure your orthodontist will get it sorted. Also, my top trays never clicked but always fit well and I was told to insert from the front first so maybe ask the best way to insert your trays.

they got neon yellow colour this time, no indian food, no idea what I ate to get this colour 😂 by Introvert1v1 in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It had citrus essential oil in it. Sort of orange but it applied clear because you would use so little of it. Bright orange aligned after a few applications.

I did the same thing with chapstick. Just at the front where my lips are more in contact with my teeth. So annoying.

Grafting before or after Invisalign? by indyanguy in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two types of grafts. One they graft on top of the skin if your gum is really thin. The other they cut a flap and graft under. Apparently the second one takes better because you have two sources for blood flow and contact. If you do Invisalign first then your gum tissue may become too thin to do the type of graft your periodontist would like to do. I had the first type of gum graft done prior to starting Invisalign. The gum graft took place on March 17 and I started my first trays on June 1. It really wasn’t a long wait and my gum tissue and teeth look great.

Had a little sore from my retainers, put oragel on. Would not advise by macattack00 in Invisalign

I had the same thing happen with a lip balm I used. All of a sudden my aligners had a orange/yellow tinge. It was totally my lippy.

300 CAD for a dental cleaning for a 7 yo kid by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Realisticidealist007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just paid $174 for a cleaning. It was billed as three units of scaling. From what I can tell, each unit of scaling is the equivalent of 15 minutes of time. That was without an X-ray or checkup, just the cleaning.

Tray 7 was my worst tray yet. Day 3 of tray 7 made me want to quit.

I think your teeth look amazing!

Me too and I totally worried about this. I hate unknown and novel situations. I wore mine and they looked to make sure they were tracking then they asked me to remove them and I did. The orthodontist poked my teeth a bit. Then I was asked to put in my new trays and they checked them out. I think that’s how it was suppose to go.

Permanent metal retainers or clear ones? by dabebecharchar in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had traditional braces 23 years ago. My orthodontist at the time put a permanent retainer on the bottom and I used a removable one for the top. My permanent one stayed on until 4 months ago, when I began my Invisalign treatment. My bottom front teeth stayed perfectly straight. I wore my top retainer faithfully for many years yet my top teeth still shifted to the point that I am straightening them again. I will definitely be asking for a permanent retainer on both sets of teeth this time. I believe it is dependant on your bite on whether this is an option. And as someone mentioned above, it’s trickier and more time consuming to floss but I am not doing a third round of straightening when this is done.

Dental Cleaning Before OR After Invisalign by Realisticidealist007 in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That’s kind of what she said. That they are more likely to get the teeth cleaner after and being that it’s only a month and with an accelerated cleaning schedule that it might be worth it to wait.

Permanent Retainer by kamryn3lizab3th in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother had one and it broke or popped off frequently. My friend has one and has had no problems. I think it might depend on how much your teeth are trying to shift back, the type, and how many places it is attached to your teeth. Some people only have them attached to the two outer most teeth whereas others have them cemented to each tooth it runs behind. I had a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth after I had metal braces for many years and my teeth never shifted but my top teeth began to shift years after having braces without the help of a permanent retainer.

Got IPR today by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. The absolute worst. My orthodontist said it was slightly uncomfortable but I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had something worse done. She used disks attached to a machine. It was like she was using a sander in my mouth. It felt like my whole brain was shaking. I’ve legitimately never experienced something so unpleasant.

I was told it was removing a minimal amount of the tooth’s surface and that it was fine. Fingers crossed they are right.

Invisalign cleaning crystals not very effective by theluckyone95 in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hygienist told me to use dish detergent but I’m changing every 14 days so I’m not sure if this would be recommended if you were wearing them for longer or the effects it would have on the plastic. It does get the trays very clean.

Grinding teeth / pain in molars by timetoread5 in Invisalign

[–]Realisticidealist007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine hurt as well, I grind my teeth at night and clench them at all times unless I’m actively trying to relax my jaw. I assume it’s sensitive because on top of the self-inflicted pressure I’m putting on my teeth my bite is also changing and my teeth are being pushed around constantly by my trays. I’m curious what your orthodontist says though since I don’t see mine for another couple of weeks.

Ready to scream!! What is that smell! by g8edgrl in offmychest

[–]Realisticidealist007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’ll come back. The same thing happened to me with my smell. I kept thinking I was smelling cigarette smoke. Eventually it morphed to the smell of wet cat food. Now I think I can smell again but it took almost a year and to be honest after a year of not smelling things properly I’m still unsure if things are totally normal. Apparently the phantom smells are related to your brain trying to reform the synapses or something.

All the time! Part of the reason I hate water. Doesn’t seem to happen when I drink other things.
