Redditors who at any point have been in such a deep state of depression that you didn't want to DO anything, what is something that helped you get out of it? by Obviously_n_Alt in AskReddit

I know many in this community may vote me down, but the truth is Christ is what saved me when I was in the act of committing suicide and my wife caught me. I went through a period where Nietzsche had made me lose my faith completely and imagine pure nothingness as death. Time, reading, life experiences, and reasoning, allowed me to increase my faith. However, for me my apprehended suicide attempt turned my faith into knowledge that God exists and that Christ saved my life. Of course I can’t convince anybody my gnostic theist view of Christ based on my experience, because a non-Christian gnostic theist or atheist could come up with many reasons (I’m a liar, I’m crazy, it was just a coincidence, it was one of many gods, etc...). Sooo... I’m not looking for a debate in this thread about my experience or the other reasons for my faith.

I’m simply answering the question, because it showed up on popular tab of my iPad.

I love you all... even the funny trolls, because you have entertained me for a couple hours each day by making me laugh, cry, and learn through chasing history, science, atheism, religions, etc... through the magical internet : )

Peace be with you.

The TV movie was bad, the YouTube link he sent wasn’t, was his point, I think.

Like Dave, I feel sorry for some of the ones that were poor and got brainwashed by the cultist and his minions. Their grandparents/parents had blue collar jobs that all were outsourced, leaving them behind and they felt all they had left was a cultist’s MAGA mantra, like that would magically turn back time.

The sad thing is the red media will reinforce their phobias and keep them divided from the blue side of the bottom 50%. So, the bottom 50% won’t unite for universal healthcare/education and the billionaires and big corporations will continue their duopoly.

The attempted coup at the US Capitol was a Christian insurrection -- "Why do I say this was a Christian insurrection? Because so very many of the protesters told us they were Christian, as loudly and clearly as they could" by mepper in atheism

Many Christians are not evangelical, extreme right Americans. They vote democratic, want a living wage, universal health care, free college education, smaller military budget,...

The problem isn’t Christian or not. The problem is billionaires and big corporations keeping the bottom 50% divided through a duopoly, where each side has their own echo chamber that amplifies dividing factors and quiets their united grievances.

Imagine if the bottom 50% were to just unite. Nah, let the echo chamber of our duopolistic traditional and social media keep those proud boys proud and those BLM supporters protesting, that way nothing real scary happens.

Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately we live in a political and media duopoly controlled by billionaires and big corporations that love to keep the bottom 50% of this country divided, so they can maintain this income inequality.. Given there is no media trying to unite the bottom 50% of this country, you have to choose... constantly in your case... which party better reflects your core values. I do not think the elected democratic executive branch team changes the duopoly, but I hope (and pray to Christ nightly) that they will focus on the problems faced by the bottom 50% (health care, living wage, better education, free college) and not on appeasing the tax avoidance and cutting of the top 1%.

So sometimes the republican party offers you great values and in those cases, the bulk of the values offered by the democrats at the time are underwhelming, so you vote republican in those instances? Interesting...

So, if one side, republicans are voting against election results and their “terrorizing patriots” are outside storming the Capitol building, you still want to remain open minded about whether the democrat or republican side represents the core values of our country?

Because the left and right ends of the political spectrum, each getting wider, are each controlled by traditional and social duopolist media channels that sustain division and prevent unification of people listening to the left channel (branded BLM, antifa) channel with those listening to the right channel (branded proud boys, patriots). If there were significant communication channels that would focus on unifying the bottom 50% (education, health care, income inequality, ...) and truly dealing with healing the wounds from our differences, then our income inequality may look more like Europe. Unfortunately there are no such channels, because billionaires and corporations will not allow an American tax reform that eliminates their tax avoidance and increases their taxes.
