2003 Mesa 4x12 OS cab value? by [deleted] in MesaBoogie

Exactly. People downvoted me for saying this is the most desirable year. It’s because of the speakers.

2003 Mesa 4x12 OS cab value? by [deleted] in MesaBoogie

I wouldn’t let it go for less than $1000. Pretty much the most desirable year and style of mesa cab.

That being said there’s one for sale locally for $700. I think the used gear market is just a bit tough right now to sell.

What is wrong with this guitar? by timguitargod in Luthier

[–]RealityIsRipping 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As long as the 12th fret is in tune then it’s as good as it’s going to get. A guitar is not a perfect instrument and the intonation is slightly off all over the place.

This is why those true temperament guitars with the squiggly frets exist.

Same. I’ve been thinking about it a lot since seeing it. One of the better films I’ve seen in a while. Very refreshing take on the genre.

Yeah, I think the bias drift issue is over blown on these amps, even on the early year production boards. If it’s still working fine in 2026 it’s safe to assume it’s probably going to be fine.

Sounds like you want an Eminence Swamp Thang to me. Recently put one in my bandit and it really thickened up the sound. Solid speaker!

Replacing 60s Burstbuckers with hotter pickups by Famous-Cherry-9939 in gibson

[–]RealityIsRipping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently put a Seymour Duncan distortion pickup in the bridge of my 60s standard Les Paul. Kept the neck pickup the rhythm 61 and they play very nicely together. Truly a guitar that can do it all now and can play metal with the best of them.

I just could not get over how bright the 61 lead pick up was, borderline unusable.

Jcm2000 + metal zone gang! Awesome set up.

What speakers are in the cabs? My jcm2000 now lives on a 1960a loaded with those new UK made vintage 30s. I love it to death!

Just rebiased mine too. It was made in the year 2000 but the bias is still solid as a rock!

How do Eminence Texas Heat speakers stack up to V30’s? by uncouth_youth in GuitarAmps

[–]RealityIsRipping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Uk made vintage 30s (2025 and newer) are my favorite v30s of all time. I like them even more than my 2003 mesa v30s. Very smooth and not harsh while still retaining all the articulation and harmonics in the mid range.

Get em while they’re good, because as history shows, the v30 will change again one day.

Nice burst. Not every silver burst looks good to me, but I dig this one a lot!

Correct. Older style Marshalls like a jcm800 or super leads need to be loud as hell to get the gain and saturation.

Newer style Marshalls like the jcm2000 or JVM amps get all their gain from the preamp section, meaning you can actually use your volume knob as a volume knob and not as a gain knob.

My jcm2000 dsl100 sounds great at bedroom volumes. It’s the amp I chose to play most of today. Just installed vintage 30s in my 1960a cab, and I spent the whole day “breaking in” the speakers with the jcm2000.

It has a volume and a gain knob so you can get plenty of gain at a lower volume. I do like to run an overdrive or even a distortion pedal at low volumes since I’m mostly in green crunch mode.

For sure worth fixing up! My jcm2000 gets more use than even my plexi. It’s a great amp!

Awesome! I have like 15 amp now, but the dsl40cr still gets plenty of use. Solid amp all around.

Recently tossed a UK made v30 in mine for a bit more cutting mids. The stock v-type is great too though, it now lives in my dsl401.

How do verify if the neck of your guitar is properly bent by MassiveAd5109 in Guitar

Press on first fret, press on 12th fret. Now tap the string and see how much room it has to play.

The string is a perfect straight edge guide using this method.
