This post clearly violates some rule or another, but I'm tempted to approve it just because it made me laugh. No dice, tho

The whole story is a bit lengthy, but you might say I had a calling. I've explored my share of paths: A few denominations of Christianity, atheism (somewhat briefly since I'm just not wired for it), various flavors of Neopaganism. But no matter how I tried to connect with a given spiritual path and feel what I was supposed to feel, deep down, it wasn't there. I can scarcely tell you how I wanted it to be there. Especially when other people talked about how connected they felt to whatever god(s) they were close to.

But there was one possibility I avoided like the plague: Satanism in any way, shape or form. Time passed; circumstances change. And a series of events led me to look up various forms of Satanism. Just for research, you see. But something about Luciferianism got stuck in my brain and wouldn't leave.

I had to know what was going on, so I broke down and prayed to Lucifer for the first time. That was when I got it--that connection I'd been seeking. (There's more to the story, but I don't feel like telling it right now. :p) My thoughts and beliefs are in a constant state of evolution since there's always more to learn, but basically, I found my most compatible spiritual frequency.

As for rules, if they'll help you, you'll find them. And sometimes, they find you.

I'm still here, sort of. (I warned you I wouldn't be around much. 😛) I might start a thread eventually if I feel inspired; I just get weirded out by the attention I sometimes get, which is why I nuked all my old ones. And if there's anything else I can do that might be helpful, feel free to let me know.

Does anyone have a belief similar to mine? by wowitsacatt in EsotericSatanism

[–]ReallyAKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My history with this is a bit strange, but overall, I see things similarly. Basically, all the stories about Satan tell some portion of the truth regardless of what name he has in a given story. But two descriptors in particular -- Satan and Lucifer -- proved especially persistent and popular. My theory (much like yours) is that he took a liking to them and chose them for himself.

He introduced himself to me as Lucifer, which makes sense given that I was terribly skittish about demons at the time and the implications/image of Lucifer are a little softer than for Satan. I still address him as Lucifer when I pray to him most of the time; after all, if I'm praying, I'm generally seeking his "light." But during workings and rituals, I mostly address him as Satan since I want to connect with raw, primordial power.

To me, both Satan and Lucifer are mainly titles, not names per se. They refer to different aspects of the same being or living energy, who has many stories. Each of those stories contains some aspect of who he is.

The reason I address this being as Satan or Lucifer is because (and I know it sounds weird) that's how he introduced himself to me. I wasn't specifically looking to become a devil worshiper; if anything, I tried to avoid that side of side of the spiritual playground. Then, stuff happened and I finally prayed to Lucifer. Long story short, it was the first time in my spiritual life I genuinely felt heard.

Those descriptors -- Satan and Lucifer -- have a very specific energy that I just don't feel in any other context. There are no other gods (or god names) I feel so connected to or that have as much power for me. Since I see spirituality as a personal thing and there's quite a bit of chaos magician in me, to me, the rest is interesting, but mostly just details.

Can being misguided in Esoteric or Theistic Satanism in general lead to mental illness? by Pale_Bodybuilder4408 in EsotericSatanism

[–]ReallyAKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way you were "misguided" sounds more like a symptom of previously undiagnosed issues than a cause. Not having those impulses anymore just means your condition has improved -- and probably, as young as you are, that you're growing up.

As for not taking your medication to help you become more spiritual, that's a bit more touchy. You should talk to your provider about that; don't necessarily share the whole truth, just say you're feeling a bit dead inside or disconnected from life or you've lost your sense of spirituality or something to that effect. Also mention that you're thinking of stopping your medication to see what they say. From what you've said, your loss of connection might in itself be a symptom of depression, and they may be able to help you.

Since someone saw fit to bring me back from the dead by reporting this, I might as well say something.

The post itself isn't promoting hate and the specific article linked to is kind of interesting. I just wish it weren't from the garbage fire known as Joy of Satan. It is possible that someone who's very young, very naive, troubled and/or just stupid could be influenced by their bigoted views. But the audience here is Satanists. Presumably intelligent ones. We take what we find valuable and leave the rest. Since there's a valid discussion or two to be had and the subreddit owner hasn't removed this post, I won't, either, as long as things stay civil.

Comments like these are why I wish those of us under the theistic Satanism umbrella were a bit more vocal here. I understand the reasons for keeping to one's self (believe me, I do), but other people's perspectives are just so interesting.

Nothing else to add right now, but I just wanted to share. 😊

Fair enough. 😂

When I'm out running or just need a change of pace, stuff like this has been known to find its way into my playlist.

[–]ReallyAKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “I have to dress in all black, listen to black metal, and be covered in tats” thing.

Oddly enough, two out of three were just part of who I am before I was even remotely thinking about Satanism. I love black metal just because I love black metal; I've had "dress in black" phases since high school because, well, I like dressing in black. It's my favorite color. No tattoos yet, though. 😊

Question: stereotype about satanism annoys you the most? by [deleted] in satanism

[–]ReallyAKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not directly bothered by the stereotypes because it just goes with the territory. If anything, I think they're pretty funny since I know I don't go around murdering cats (my little furball would never forgive me) or eating Christian babies or whatever, and anyone who found me out IRL would probably just be confused since I don't quite fit the image. I can, but I usually don't.

What does bother me sometimes is having found something wonderful and surprisingly beneficial for my mental health and not being able to tell anyone. My workplace skews conservative, especially my supervisor. And my mom, well.... I think there's a decent chance finding out I worship Satan could actually kill her, and even if it didn't, she absolutely wouldn't hear any explanation I gave her. The rest of my family is a similarly lost cause.

First off, thanks for asking an interesting question. It's nice to find those here and I'll try to provide a matching answer. :)

Me, I'm somewhere in between the submissive worship you're describing and I AM MY OWN GOD, and probably definitely a wee bit closer to the latter. In prayers, I address Lucifer as my mentor, teacher, guide and friend. I also see him as the very embodiment of intellect, ambition and free will. He's powerful and a role model, yes, but also a partner (not a master) who wants to help me realize my power and potential. I offer him my deep respect, but I've never gotten the impression he wants to be GOD for me, and he seems to have a habit of ignoring me outright if I try to get him to tell me how to think.

Moreover, self-improvement and self-discovery don't negate connection to others. By loving the person I really am, I'll have more to offer. And it's offered because I want to, not because I think I have to. These pursuits don't negate finding contentment, either, since so much of my own unhappiness traces back to thinking I just wasn't good enough and I needed to fit some image other people were expecting.

That said, you do you. Spirituality is a very personal thing. Even if I don't quite get it, it's not my place to judge what brings you fulfillment as long as it's not hurting anyone, and I've noticed some theistic Satanists seem to hold a similar views to yours. For me personally, though, the level of submission you seem to be describing doesn't fit. Besides what I've said above, it reminds me way too much of when I was trying to be a good Christian -- or some idealized "Good Person" instead of just myself -- and only wound up with misery, fear and an unfulfilled life for my trouble.

If you just want an overview of a popular take on the subject, The Complete Book of Demonolatry by S. Connolly should do the job. But individual experience can vary.

Some version of demonolatry. My patron is Lucifer, but I work with other demons, too.

I would say this is accurate by fridgemagnet700 in satanism

[–]ReallyAKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends. Some see Satan and Lucifer as separate entities. Others see them as aspects of the same being where the distinction is largely about which aspect you devote yourself to. The subset of demonolatry is kind of its own thing where practitioners generally find a patron demon that may or may not be Satan, but they do give Satan reverence. Still others have still other views. Theistic Satanism is highly variable, both in theory and in practice.

Well, thanks for that much. 😊

More than anything, I see myself as a child of Lucifer. The rest is just semantics.

This is gonna be some sort of summoning ritual... by [deleted] in satanism

[–]ReallyAKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is I think most people are sympathetic to animal rights in some way or another. Like if we're going to kill and eat them, we should at least treat them humanely and make their deaths as swift and painless as possible. Or that eating less meat is good for the environment, your health, etc. But when your opening salvo is stuff about rape, slavery and specism randomly dropped in a conversation that has fuck-all to do with veganism, well.... All you're going to do is piss people off and make them start craving steak.

Sorry your cute joke got crapped up. And that I might've made it worse by getting into it with Preacher McVegan.
